Serving God is a Funny Business

By Nita K. Curry

The little seed that began ninetyandnine.com was a brainstorming session that touted the unfortunate truth that there was so little ‘college and career’ focused material anywhere.  Thus was born the idea of a web zine with relevant articles, devotions, book reviews and the like hoping to reach the college and career-aged Apostolic.

I don’t know about you, but I have learned a lot since the birth of ninetyandnine.com.

·        I learned once again what it is like to have a husband so sold out on a ministry that the amount of hours he spends working on it would be unfathomable to most of you.

·        I have learned that even though we are so busy with our own college and career class, various church responsibilities and a growing two-year old, one can still find time for a ministry if it becomes a burden.

·        I have realized that I can stretch and grow in areas that I am not necessarily called and that it is healthy spiritually for me.

·        I’ve learned how difficult it is when someone writes unkind, unsigned remarks about your husband. (I just wish it bothered him as much as it bothers me.) Still, I know that God takes care of those types of people.

One of the areas that I have been most impressed is the intelligence and faithfulness of our readers.  So many have written and expressed how much an article or a certain viewpoint has meant to them.  Unfortunately, sometimes¾as one who has submitted an article here and there¾it isn’t enough.  When you bare your soul and you do it because you feel that it just might help someone, you pray that someone will write and tell you. I’ve learned that you don’t do it for the feedback, you do it because you feel that God wants you to!

Serving God is a funny business. Never in a million years did I ever think we would have a ministering web zine. Each week is a challenge, a sacrifice and a joy and, although I haven’t always agreed with everything written in the zine, they are usually subjects that college and careerers are thinking about and wishing they could discuss it in an intelligent format. But in His infinite wisdom, He has us trying our best to please Him.  My prayer is that we do.
