Whether you’ve heard their names
before or not, and whether they make it to the top of the charts, these artists
are safe picks to drop your hard-earned $15 on in the coming year.
* Katy
Hudson. She debuts next year on Red Hill Records. Her lush pop
orchestrations are reminiscent at times of Tori Amos, Cindy Morgan and No Doubt.
* Circadian
Rhythm. This group debuts next year on 40 Records, a sub-label of Gotee
Records. This worship band favors the passionate stylings of U2, Delirious and
Radiohead.
* Kathy
Troccoli. As her ministry expands to include being an author and speaker,
she's becoming a staple of women's conferences. She has a book and a women's
conference video planned for early 2001.
* Tonex.
His indie debut finally re-released on both Jive/Verity and Tommy Boy Records.
He isn't just a great, great urban pop artist (smoothly sliding from gospel to
jazz to funk), but is essentially the leader of a whole movement in contemporary
gospel music (called "Nureau"), working with the likes of Virtue,
Kelli Williams, rappers Unity Klan, smooth male vocal group 4th Elemynt. He's an
entrepreneur and a worship leader; he started a label and is making a movie.
This guy is going to make an impact.
