High Voltage and the Name of Jesus

By Michael Wayne Benson
January 15, 2001

Working as a frame carpenter in Louisiana can certainly be hot and grueling work.  On one particular August day last year, our crew was framing a house while an electrical company was hooking up their lines about twenty yards away from us.

Suddenly, I heard a co-worker yelling for me because someone needed help.  I quickly ran over to find a man on the ground; he was not breathing.  While working on an electrical box, he had grabbed a wire that was supposed to have been dead.  His touching this wire had sent 6,500-7,000 volts of electricity surging through his body.

I leaned over and immediately started to plead the blood of Jesus over him, as the Bible instructs us to do.  And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up.”  (James 5:15)  As another worker and I continued to pray for him, bubbles slowly started to emerge from his mouth.

The electrical workers began to try to perform CPR, but they were not successful because his jaw was locked.  Once again, we called the name of Jesus in prayer over the man.  At this prayer, his jaw released, and the workers were able to administer two breaths and two chest compressions.

The man became conscious of his surroundings.  He began to say, “I’m all right; I’m all right.”  However, he still could not move his legs or his arms.  Again, the name of Jesus was called on to cover him with healing power.  After this prayer, his legs and arms were freed, and he could move them.

The ambulance then arrived to take him to the hospital.   At the hospital, he had to have surgery on his fingers (where the electricity had entered); otherwise, he was in good medical condition.  The electricity voltage had entered through his hand and exited through his back and leg.

I went to visit this man two weeks after the incident.  He told me what he remembered of that morning.  He said there was intense pain as the electricity entered his body.  Then, he blacked out and remembered nothing except seeing the most beautiful bright orange light he had ever seen.  As he was watching the light, he awoke to the most wonderful sound ever heard¾the name of Jesus being prayed over him!

He will have to undergo another surgery on his hand, but he is alive today because of the power of the name of Jesus.  Those of us who were there will forever stand in awe of the resurrection power of Jesus touching, healing, and raising up a mere man on a hot August day in Louisiana.
