More Miraculous Interventions: The stories kept arriving. Last week we published reports from the World Trade Center and the Pentagon that proved how God protects His children in spite of tragedy and crisis. Then we received new stories from other people and felt the Lord still needed to be praised. September 11, 2001 is a day of national tragedy, but also of further proof that a nation can turn to a God that cares. As happened last week, feel free to share these stories with co-workers, family and fellow saints at work, at home or in services to build faith and overcome fear. Our
God still reigns. The Editors We are all still in shock and disbelief from this attack but we and our church family are OK. The church building is uptown from the towers and is safe. We had our prayer service last night, allowing our saints to thank God for spared lives and families and to vocalize their feelings concerning this tragedy in their hometown. The presence of the Lord was in our midst and so many of our new people were seeking for the Lord and peace last night. Our tears were for people still missing, for souls to realize their need for God and tears of thanks for protection. We have a new convert who works in the subway station below the towers and as soon as she heard about the first explosion, she left the area – but forgot her purse and keys and returned to see the second plane hit and to be able to escape again! God is so good. She has been baptized, but has not been filled with the Holy Ghost yet. Our children's director was just exiting the Battery Tunnel from Staten Island when her bus was stopped in traffic just a few blocks from the towers. The first blast had happened, the sky was full of debris and smoke, and people were running everywhere. She left the bus and started to run away when the second plane passed over her head and hit the second tower. She said she just prayed and ran and managed to get to the ferry at South Harbor and she was on the one and only ferry crossing after the blast. They all put on life vests (afraid they might be hit or that the ferry would sink) it was so loaded with people. She sat next to a man, he asked her if she was okay and then said "Let's pray!" She was so excited and felt so blessed to have sat down beside another Christian and to be able to pray. Her husband is a New York policeman and is currently assigned to a unit on Staten Island because he just received a promotion and must spend time in a precinct environment. His normal duty is administrative assistant to one of the Commissioner's and he would have been in lower Manhattan with him (without that promotion). God protects in marvelous ways. God spared lots of saints from around the district who worked in the towers. · One pastor and one saint were sick and did not go in to work that day. · One lady woke up late and did not go in to work. · Another lady broke a shoe, went back home to change and she did not get to work at her usual time. Thus she was not in the building yet when the first blast occurred. She was walking across the outside plaza when things began to fall around her. She covered her head with her purse and ran back into the subways and was able to get out before the trains stopped running. One
saint from the Staten Island church was on the 102nd floor of Tower One and made
it down to the ground and away from the building before it collapsed. He said
his walk down was traumatic and tiring. He was blessed to be on the opposite
side of the building from the direct hit and his stairwell was still intact. On
the other side, the stairwell was destroyed. So, we consider ourselves very blessed and give thanks to God. We have received calls and emails from all over the world¾from people who know us and as well as from people and churches who do not and were just calling to say they were praying. We are a blessed people! Buddy and June Buie pastor the Greater New York United Pentecostal Church Several
months ago we had a young lady who was living for God and faithful, then
tribulation arose in her life and she ran away from God to NYC. (We are located
about 2 hours from New York City.) She wasn't in the buildings, but she was
close enough to watch them burn and fall. The end result is that it woke her up
enough that she was seeking God in church the very next service that she could
get to. A small thing perhaps, in light of all the tragedy, but a big thing
where her eternity is concerned. John
Atkinson Just a report from the Left Coast. A (church) member has a niece who worked in Tower One on the 65th floor. She left for work at 8 a.m. When she arrived at the building, she realized she forgot to pack a lunch for her son to take to school. So feeling bad about it she returned home and heard all the news there. (She lost many co-workers. One
member testified that he was there in the middle of it when it all happened.
He flew in to New York City Monday night for meetings Tuesday morning.
His hotel was downtown. His meetings
were in a building directly across the street from the WTC. Tuesday morning he
overslept (he was still on West Coast Time) and missed the first
meeting scheduled for 9 a.m. Another member has a relative who was in Tower One on the 97th floor when it collapsed. He escaped with only a broken leg. He said it was like he was on a giant slide and he was sliding out of control. One of our church leaders was on his way to the Pentagon when it was hit. He was stuck in traffic and missed the whole thing. Naomi
