Readership Survey
We love this survey! Every year we’re
surprised and amazed at the diversity within the Apostolic movement as
represented by your answers. Somehow, so many of you ended up as regular ninetyandnine.com
readers. We couldn’t be happier.
It’s an Aurora Borealis of ideas!
Besides the hard demographic facts of your existence, we wondered what you
liked and didn’t like about the zine. As the Letter’s Page proves weekly,
you’re never short of ideas. So, though the list might seem long, we tried to
weed out redundancies, but wanted to keep the constant refrains in to show you
how popular certain choices were.
But don’t just read them. We survive on your submissions. So many readers
asked for more local news, but we don’t have a news staff-only you can provide
local news to us! Whether it’s news, testimonies, practical Christian living,
or reviewing interesting books and music, please find a topic you like and write
it up!
Without Whom…
Finally, if you’ve never handled a survey of this magnitude, you have no
idea how much time and effort it takes. Special thanks to the beautiful and
vivacious Nita Curry for crunching the numbers and organizing the data. (She’s
smart, too!) You wouldn’t be reading this without her efforts.

The Spiritual
Reaching the lost.
What God is doing in the church and find out how the other churches are
doing at winning souls for the kingdom of God.
Praise/Worship music-changing from the traditional "hymnal"
music to chorus' contemporary. Good or bad.
Testimonies of how God saved people.
Things that are affiliated with our youth and young adults, and what we
are doing to further God's kingdom.
The foundational things; the things that, sadly, not all of our
young people understand. A firmer stand on the Oneness, holiness,
separation, love, evangelism, teaching home Bible studies, being a soul
winner, being a Christian behind closed doors, etc.
People receiving the Holy Ghost, the will of God (biblical definition
of), intercessory prayer, fleecing the Lord, going to the movies, wisdom,
tongues and interpretation.
The importance of being holy and godly. Getting closer to Jesus.
Preacher profiles.
Evangelism and life evangelism (living the faith). Our actions always
speak louder than words.
Whatsoever things are lovely..." ;)
Church unity.
The Practical
Finances, raising a Christian family, work-related witnessing/stories of
success.
Related to singles ministry.
Reviews about Apostolic events...loved your descriptions of Bro. Haney's installation
service. Short bio's of different apostolics would be fun, I think.
Dating, Courtship, Engagement.
Young marrieds / youth worker issues.
Apostolic fashion with holiness.
The application of principles of separation and holiness in our modern,
high-tech lifestyles.
College life and real world careers.
Happenings in the Apostolic movement, like a place where people can
submit info about cool things happening in their section or district that
other readers might be interested in attending.
More reviews on Christian books and music would be appreciated.
Apostolics in missions, as well as articles about folks we might not know
as Apostolics-the story on the Antarctica
rescue is great example!
Something other than the UPC point of view.
Anything positive and uplifting. Encouragement will go much further than
words spoken to criticize.
Fiction.
A collection of great church humor.
Gabby more often.
An Apostolic perspective on what's going on in the world around us.
Schedule of events listing upcoming conferences, retreats, etc.
Applications of biblical principles to today's life in 21st century, in
topics like:
How to be a successful soulwinner in the workplace / school.
Finding the right mate.
Finding the will of God in my life.
Keys to Christian stewardship.
Involving a young person in ministry.
Dealing with people who are difficult to work with.
How to deal with and minister to the Next Generation.
Keys to avoiding the danger zone of "almost backsliding."
How to be friends with non-Christians.
Finding who I really am (finding true identity).
Keys to make a wise career decision.
Add two more sections to your site:[1] Sermons, [2] Bible Study.
Use of e-mail manners.
Funny stuff, like the Pentecostal bloopers,
and NYC survival tips.
Personal testimonies and real stories. Instead of church bloopers, have a
real story and apply a meaning to it.
Real life as an Apostolic. Nitty-gritty issues Apostle Paul doesn't seem to
cover, like…
Is a little pot okay?
What about role-playing games like D&D? Is it different if the game
is a board game, a trading-card game, or a computer game?
The Southern Baptists boycotted Disney, why don't we?
Is alternative medicine okay, or is it hoaxters' gobbledygook, or is it
occultic? (I would really love to see some in-depth articles on that.
Nobody talks about it. I think alt. med. is a mixture of all three,
the danger being in the occultic bits which people don't realize are occultic.)
I would like to see a spin-off section or website devoted to Parenting
As An Apostolic. What have other people's experiences been in
home-schooling vs. private schools, A.C.E. curriculum, discipline issues,
videos or not videos, Nintendo vs. not-Nintendo, keeping liberal wackos from
calling DSHS when they see you use a 'switch', etc.
Bloopers or funny things that happen in church.
What it’s like to be an Apostolic in other countries!
A two-week forum on certain issues. Two weeks won’t minimize the amount
of messages onto the original posted message.
Articles / surveys that deal with time-management for youth
Relatonships, dating, and dealing with break-ups. Looking for and finding
the sincere Christian Mr. Right.
Fashion (that might sound shallow, but the magazines out there don’t
cater to our modesty and Pentecostals have trends just as much as any other
organization).
This is the 1st time I have ever read your newsletter, but it will not be
the last. I would like to see testimonies and truth. That would be such a
wonderful change to what other magazines offer.
More testimonies and more true stories about what the Lord has done for
people.
High school and college struggles-standing out in the crowd.
Our relationship with, and/or our efforts to establish dialog with, other non-Apostolic
Christians.
More info about what's going on as an Apostolic Movement.
Articles that address personal triumphs concerning dating, finances,
whatever . . . oh yeah, more about balancing career and a Christian lifestyle.
Okay, I think that's it.
Common Christian character.
Music Reviews.
Single Life.
Apostolics dealing with television and movie watching.
Missionary miracle stories
Building Godly dating relationships :)
Christian participation in the public square, especially with respect to politics
and general involvement in the communities where we live.
The “Whys” behind standards.
In college and still living with parents
The Challenging
Bridging the gap
between the UPC and other
"Apostolic" organizations. I was raised Church of God of Prophecy,
then A/G for years, then was baptized in the name of Jesus and started
preaching in Independent Hard Nosed, Right Wing Apostolic churches.
After preaching for many UPC Superintendents and officials, I joined the UPC
and stayed in it for 11 years. I withdrew from the UPC in 2000, but continue
to preach in a select few UPC churches. You may not be able to see it (being
in it), but there is a major elitist attitude among the UPC and most
of them do not want to fellowship or have anything whatsoever to do with
other UPC churches in their cities. There is such a spirit of competition
among them and they sure do not want anything to do with anyone that is ALJC,
PAW, or anything else. I am thankful to be out of it and so are many of my
friends that have left it. Many more are in the process of leaving and,
contrary to what is being said, there is tremendous, healthy, and good,
clean fellowship outside the UPC!
Do the decibel levels of (many) UPC churches do any damage to the hearing
of Christians? Does the decibel level do anything to encourage worship? Does
the decibel level discourage first time visitors from returning?
I know you’ll never do this, but it would be fun to see a UPC
Society/Gossip column.
Addictive behavior and young marriage issues.
Race relations and multiculturalism in the church.
Controversial subjects within the church, radical methods of
evangelism-what should be changed and what should remain the same?
Artistic diversity, both visual and musical, in the UPC.
I’d like for Bro. Kenneth Haney to be a guest editor a time or two and
just have him address our age group.
Help Apostolics think about the ridiculous behaviors that we exhibit.
Make us think. Example-Do you preach against secular music and then rock
Celine Dion in your car, or Garth Brooks, or some ridiculous Christian Rock
that has as much to do with worship and godliness as Danzig? I would love to
see Apostolics who were led to realize the absurdity of this, and support
good music with positive content, not Christian labels.
I would like to see at least one article about Pastors /
Evangelists / Missionaries that have left the UPC, PAW, ALJC, etc. and
continued to grow and impact thousands in other movements. Men like Bishop
T. D. Jakes, Bishop Tudor Bismark, Dr. Mark Hanby, Bishop W. Wayne Pugh,
Evangelist Tommy Tenney, Pastor Derek Purser, Pastor Mike Hayes, Bishop Jack
DeHart, Pastor Dan Dean, Bishop Kenneth Phillips, Pastor Randy Phillips,
Pastor Steve Muncie, Pastor Phil Muncie, Bishop Joseph Garlington, Pastor
Clint Brown, Pastor Randy Clark, Apostle Henry Jones and many others. That
would be a great article! It sure would stir up some fire and get you some
attention! :)
Homosexuality.
The “superstars” of Pentecost, the overbearing evangelists, the
churches that are neglecting to worship God in favor of worshipping worship.
And, no, I’m not overly negative, but I sometimes think the tail is wagging
the dog.
A good article showing that not all Apostolics are right wing
conservatives, but that some of us are fairly liberal politically.
The Technical
Can’t you guys have like a free personals thing? So,
90&9.com readers that live in the same town can meet each other.
Okay, so what would be really cool would be if you had a way to
log in and post replies to articles. The way slashdot.org does it.
It would be neat if you could have a database for people to put their
current personal info, so old friends (Bible School and church buddies)
could locate each other. Sort of like classmates.com.
What about an all-purpose question forum? With different “experts” to
handle differing subjects.
The Puzzling
Dinosaurs.
Shopping hot spots for Apostolics.
The Satisfied
Honestly, I've never been disappointed by the selection of articles in
90&9.com.
I honestly like it he way it is...
Everything. . . it is all great.
It's all good, really. Hey, guess what? I'm Baptist. and I found out
about ya'll's site from bobsmiley.com
You have a good variety.
I enjoy everything your have on 90&9.com.
You do a great job, but I most like the stories that are full of passion
and spirituality.
I think you have a nice balance of articles. :-)
I am pleased with everything that I have read on the website!
I think the selection of articles is pretty good. Would a discussion of
government be an appropriate topic for this kind of zine?
I would like to see fewer articles covering…
Standards.
Music-although I just pick and choose what I want to read and skip over the
music reviews.
Stoopid questions of the week.
How people think Pentecost has a bunch of problems.
I don’t think you overdo it on any given subject. I feel that the
publication offers a well-balanced array of topics.
Music reviews.
Nothing! If I’m not interested, I don’t have to read it. I’ll just
click on something else.
Music reviews, and thank goodness you’ve cut down on the theology
letters.
You’re doing an excellent job. It’s all good!
“What’s your favorite soda?” surveys.
What the Trinitarians are doing, what the Charismatics are doing. I’d
like to see less “my opinion” and more “what the Word says”.
I love all 90&9 articles!
Reviews.
Worldly movies my Pastor won’t
let me go to anyway!
It’s all good, I have received many blessing by reading articles on
90&9. Keep up the good work! I have recommended your site to the youth and
many others. Peace!
As I said, all articles are very well-written. Just wanted you to know I
worked at UPC Headquarters years ago, under the direction of Bro. Morgan.
The UPC point of view.
Anything controversial. I realize that people are entitled to an opinion
and that this is an open forum for said opinions; however, I’ve noticed that
this is perfect breeding grounds for debate and debate tends to run rampant in
Apostolic circles. I thought we were supposed to be continuing in brotherly
love, not always arguing over who’s truly anointed of God, what’s “socially
acceptable” in Apostolic circles, etc. (you fill in the blank.). If there
must be debate, let’s do so in brotherly love, without attacking each other.
Thanks!
Dating
College life
Articles with a jaded view of of the UPC in the name of honesty. While that
sounds noble, I think it tends to chisel away at the foundation of a great
organization that has been instrumental in bringing revival to the world.
Young adult issues-dating, 20 year-old life issues. But you gotta have 'em
for a 'college' format. If other articles, like what I mentioned above are
included, then I'm happy. I can skip over what I don't need. I like it as it is,
too. Good work!
No complaints.
Sappy music.
Dating.
Gabby has got to go. She's awful.
Music reviews that do not promote true Apostolic-anointed, God-inspired
music!
Devotions.
Irrelevant surveys-some of the Big Questions are good, but some are seriously
lacking.
I like all the articles and wouldn't cut any of them.
Dating.
"UPC standards."
If there's an article about something I'd rather not see, then I just don't
click on it.
A lot of stuff, but who cares? (Not you guys.)
You got a good mix going.
Some of the letters can get pretty rotten; maybe some of the attitude should
be edited :)
Music.
Ye olde (and tired) UPCI, and Midwestern restaurant habits learned at
Po' Folks in 1980 and never forgotten.
I do not enjoy reading about debated doctrine, other faiths (Mormons, Islam,
or the endless fascination with end-time events. (I do not plan on being here
when they occur).
Everything is fine!
Man's “standards.”
