When God Laughs...At Me!
By Jaime McGarvey
June 30, 2003
In the past, I haven’t been
so proactive about sharing my faith. If provoked, I share multitudes of wisdom
on a variety of topics and have never been completely shy about witnessing. I,
however, am not the “walk-up-to-a-stranger-and-give-them-the-good-news” junkie.
Frankly, those kind of people have always made me a tad bit uncomfortable.
However, my church recently
created a new logo and cool cards featuring our service times and contact
numbers. I thought, “I wouldn’t be ashamed to pass these out.” So I’ve started
doing it. When someone asks about my church—cha-ching! I’m whipping out the card
with the neato map and sharing how wonderful our church is before you can say,
“Super soul-winner.”
Except…I’m sitting in the
drive thru of Long John Silvers and thinking, “Okay, I should start giving
random people cards, too. I’ll try this, God.” So I give the guy my money, get
my drink, get my change, give him a smile and a card and say, “Here’s a card to
my church. Have a nice night.” I drive away feeling a bit pleased with my
witnessin’ self.
As I pull into my driveway,
craving those chicken planks and the little crunchies like a big dawg, I reach
over to grab my drink and bag—and it is gone! Gone, I tell you! I check under
the seats and rustle around in the back. No bag.
Then it hit me. I had driven
off without my food!
Don’t you love it when you
know without a doubt that God is laughing at you? I mean really belly laughing,
not just snickering.
I will try to remember my
food the next time I attempt to be a super soul-winner.
I am not the Apostle Paul
yet, but at least I’m trying.

result of her efforts, three chicken planks and a French fry have come to the
