Print During your summer CD purchasing, take a moment to check out Anthony Evans’ debut album, Even More. This album will be appreciated by just about any music lover, for Evans successfully fuses adult contemporary/pop-flavored songs with urban and gospel-tinged moments. Evans was exposed to a plethora of musical flavors while he was growing up. From Amy Grant, Steven Curtis Chapman and Michael W. Smith to Comissioned, Andre’ Crouch and The Winans, these genres helped Anthony develop his own unique style. “It was a challenge to get the right balance of styles that represented my experience in Christian music,” Evans explains. “We worked hard at making sure the record was an accurate reflection of who I am musically and lyrically. Stylistically, there’s something for everyone. Even More encompasses many of the influences that I grew up enjoying and is a reflection on how these styles have characterized my music and my life.” Evans co-wrote all but two songs on Even More, and he shared the deeper meanings behind the music and lyrics: ■ “Restore Me”—“This was the first completed song for the album. I had been going through this phase of complacency; I knew how to act and say the things everyone wanted to hear me say, but it was a different story on the inside. This song is a prayer to God, asking for his mercy and restoration.” ■ “Just Like You”—“This song is for my dad. I saw my grandfather’s faithfulness fulfilled in my father’s life, and I’m here because my father was faithful, too.” ■ “The One”—“I had to stop and ask myself, ‘Am I out here performing for someone else’s approval?’ I wanted to write this song as a reminder of why I’m doing what I’m doing…Why should I try to jump through hoops for other people when they aren’t the ones I should be trying to please? My prayer is that the mask will come off, we will examine [our] hearts and in turn allow God to do something great inside.” Even More was produced by some of today’s top production talents, including Pete Kipley (Rebecca St. James), Dan Muckala (Aaron Neville, Mandy Moore), Shaun Shankel (Point of Grace), Greg Bieck (Joey McIntyre) and Franklin. You will also hear the vocal talents of Crystal Lewis and Franklin with Evans. This may be the 25-year-old’s first released album, but singing has been his life. Evans’ musical history includes his college years as part of Liberty University’s Sounds of Liberty, followed by a two-year stretch as a vocalist with TRUTH. Evans has also traveled with his father, Dr. Tony Evans, senior pastor of a more than 7, 000 member church in Dallas, performing more than 50 solo dates a year at some of the nation’s largest churches and conferences, including a recent performance in front of President Bush. Currently, Evans is touring as a backup singer with Kirk Franklin, whom Evans looks to as a friend and mentor. You will not be disappointed in your selection of Anthony Evans, Even More.
