Seeing as how it’s summer (and without fail my attention span becomes shorter as the days become longer), this week’s blog covers a myriad of topics. So without further ado, Night Musing brings you . . . The Week In Review. Day by Day As the Democratic Convention got underway, I was left scratching my head and wondering, “Do I really care?” Now before all of you political junkies get yourselves all worked up about the lack of political knowledge and political apathy in general, take a deep breath and count to 10. I, of all people, love politics. However, the “Johns”—as I have taken to calling them—manage to make me believe at every turn in the ignorance of the Democratic Party. So instead of wasting any more breath on this topic, I have decided to leave the coverage of the DC to people more tolerant than myself. **I do reserve the right to revoke this comment at a later date should something truly idiotic or mind boggling be said in Boston during the week.** On a more somber front, reading the information surrounding the missing person’s case of Lori Hacking is greatly disturbing. Mainly because the more I read, the more I am convinced that her husband murdered her. I keep asking myself the same question I did when Laci Peterson first disappeared—how could a husband take the life of his wife and unborn child? Being single has never been so comforting. My heart goes out to the families in this horrible situation. Even if Mark Hacking isn’t guilty, there is very little hope of a happy ending here. This is my favorite time of the year. Why you ask? Not because of the weather or the longer days but because I hate basketball and I live in an area where I can’t seem to escape the sport. Fortunately the all-too-brief summer months usually give me a respite from all the hype and “hoop”-la. Instead I can root for the St. Louis Cardinals, cheer on Lance Armstrong as he wins his 6th Tour (even if I have to explain to my friend over and over again that splitting with his wife does not diminish his athletic accomplishments), and this year anxiously await the start of the Olympics. Please, no one mention Shaq or Kobe for the next three months and I’ll be fine. A Little Bit Of Everything Else I’m a celebrity junkie. I admit it. The life of the rich and famous intrigues me and brings me endless hours of ridicule and laughter. Having said that . . . Allegations surfaced this week claiming that Michael Jackson is soon to become the father of quadruplets being carried by a surrogate mother. Does anyone in the world still truly believe that this man should be allowed to father children? At best Michael has a shady history with children and on September 13 he is scheduled to stand trial on 10 indictments of child molestation, abduction, extortion, and false imprisonment. Already father to three children—Prince Michael I, Paris Michael and Prince Michael II(just a tad egocentric, no??)—the King of Pop keeps them hidden away from society, dressing them in veils when in public, and dangling them over hotel balconies whenever he sees fit. I don’t believe he should be allowed to keep the three small children that he currently has, let alone be allowed to father four more. Jackson has denied the rumors and has refused to comment any further. I guess I should look on the bright side, only five more children and he’ll have his own jury. J.K. Rowling, author of the infamous Harry Potter book series, announced this week that she is expecting her third child. Please, please let her be right about this not causing a delay in the release of book six. It’s been a year since book five was released and I’m starting to go into withdrawals. Yes, I like a book about a group of child wizards – why does that bother people? I also love Lord of the Rings and Star Trek. Apparently I’m a Sci-Fi/Fantasy junkie—who knew? Random Thought of the Week “Love feels like waking up to your alarm clock and realizing that it’s Saturday and you don’t have to get up yet. Of course then you eventually do wake up and realize that the beeping wasn’t your alarm but the smoke detector and that the house is burning down around you.” Overheard Singles Home Group this week—as singles leader they sure do make me proud. And just so you don’t think I’m entirely shallow or unspiritual . . . Scripture of the Week “Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within thy palaces” (Psalm 122:6 KJV). May this week bring you peace and prosperity in your walk with God.
