Morning Starts

Whenever I log onto the internet at my office, I am directly whisked to www.msn.com. This is the default homepage where I work at so I don’t really have a choice. At first I was a little frustrated because I wanted to set up my own “web stuff,” but now I must admit that I enjoy it. I like seeing all the news stories. They post everything from weather to celebrity gossip. I am hooked. I usually spend the first 15 minutes of my day perusing the new stories.

Online College?

This morning I was checking out all the new articles and this one caught my eye; “Nursing Degrees Online.” I clicked on it to see what it was all about, because I have to admit I was a little disturbed. It opened up to a plethora of links to online colleges, but no specifics on the nursing program. That thought gave me the willies. The medical profession is primarily a hands-on field. I can’t imagine someone being able to earn their entire degree by only using their computer and textbooks. Would you want someone to give you a shot that had just graduated and never even worked the equipment? Or worse, someone to assist a doctor in surgery, and have to clamp an artery, when they had never even touched another human body? I wouldn’t. I think that the internet is a wonderful tool that has done wonders for us, but there has to be a line drawn. Not everything can be done online. There has to be human contact in some areas of life and the medical field is definitely one of them.

12-year old Dazzles Dems

I am a devotee to political news. I don’t really know that much, I just love to read all the latest headlines. This specific one came with a picture. It was interesting to see this young girl; mouth open wide, waving her fist in the air as if she was at a football game, standing in front of thousands at the Democratic convention. Supposedly, she’s worked up a little fame by starting her own website. Teresa Heinz Kerry called the young girl and asked her to speak at the convention. It just bothers me that they are using a young child, who is too young to really understand politics, to try and woo voters. There were no apparent issues discussed, she was just shouting out her support for Kerry. I guess I always thought of the convention as a chance to address the key issues. I didn’t realize it had turned into a pep-rally.

Good News

I had to back away from the website after that one because I needed a daily dose of encouragement. That is when I found this story. It is a story of a lottery winner that sent his money to Japanese flood victims anonymously. Now, I don’t agree with lotteries, but to know that there are still selfless people in the world who do things to help others in need just makes my heart happy.

My 15 minutes of reading were up and I had to get to work, I just wanted to share some the interesting things I had come across this morning.
