Print "When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, then you knew my path" (Psalms 142:3). Just recently I came across this wonderful passage in my daily devotion book that immediately grabbed my attention. The past month has left me completely overwhelmed and stressed. With school, work, church, and struggling social relationships, I have gotten bogged down in worry. It seems that although my spiritual life was on track, my life situations were getting the best of me, causing me to be rather emotional and worn out. I began to mediate on that scripture. When I’m overwhelmed, God knows and He sees me. He knows where I am, and, more importantly, He knows where I'm headed. This scripture was such a great reminder to me that, when I'm going through my own private darkness, God is in me, comforting my spirit. I shared this thought with some of my friends and even taped the scripture to the steering wheel of my car as a daily reminder that God is with me through the stressed moments. I began to recite the scripture to myself every time that nervousness began to build up in my stomach. Then, during a Wednesday night prayer service at church, the word “overwhelmed” came to my mind. I was sitting on the pew meditating on God. Even though we were supposed to be praying, I really didn’t feel the need to talk to God, but just to listen. As I was sitting there, God spoke to my heart and said, "I want you to be overwhelmed with me." Thoughts were just landing in my soul, so I grabbed a piece of paper and began to write down everything God was speaking into my spirit. When we are overwhelmed with worldly thoughts, worries and stress, God wants to replace all those feelings with His love, joy and peace. God wants our hearts to be overwhelmed, but overwhelmed with His presence. God wants to exchange my worries with His peace and leave me overwhelmed with His presence. What a thought to be completely consumed and overwhelmed with God! Those moments of doubt, anxiety and stress will come. When they do show up, however, God has promised us that He is there and is willing to take their place. Continue to trust that God knows your tomorrow and become overwhelmed with that knowledge.
