If We Faint Not
By John S. Leaman
December 13, 2004

This promise of Galatians 6:9 (“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”) is made to each of us when there is something we are praying for and we have not seen the answer.  This happens many times when we are praying for the salvation of a loved one, and we don’t seem to see any progress.

I have just had a prayer answered that I have been praying about for many years.  I have a sister that walked away from the Lord 53 years ago.  It was devastating to my dad, who was also her pastor, when this happened because my sister had walked with God all through high school and then after graduation backslid.  My parents wept many a tear over what she did, as well as many other members of the family.

Little did we know that during these years she was still reading her Bible and talking to her husband at various times about what she was reading.  As I was growing up, she and her husband took care of me and my sister Donna when my parents were away preaching a revival or attending special meetings.

When you pray for many years, you wonder if your prayer is going to be answered.

Her husband died a year and a half ago, and the family that was left continued to pray.  By now, there were nieces and nephews that joined the prayer band believing for an answer.

She attended the UPCI’s 2003 General Conference in Toronto, which was a good sign to the family.  After that, she would attend services once in a while, but in June, 2004 she started attending services more regularly.  She attended the Salt Lake General Conference (2004), and we could see the Lord was working and she was mellowing.

On Sunday, October 31, 2004, she attended the Sunday morning service and then decided to attend the evening service as well.  During that service, the pastor was about to introduce the evening speaker and said that he felt hesitant to go any farther with the service because God was doing a work with someone.  She said later that she knew who that person was and felt it might be her final chance.

She walked to the front, and, in a matter of minutes, the Lord renewed her with the Holy Ghost.  What a change it has made in her life!  She told me that now she can hardly wait to get to church.

If you are praying for a loved one, Don’t give up!  The Lord still answers prayer.
