August 22, 2005
The Question:
Who’s the most famous person you’ve ever met and what were the circumstances?
The Answer: “I’m
not sure if shaking his hand is considered ‘meeting’ but I met Dan and Marilyn
Quail while they were in office as vice president. Marilyn actually spoke
directly to me, stating she liked my outfit. Since my mom had made that
particular dress I was wearing, she was quite pleased as well!”
The Answer: “The
most famous person(s) I have met have been Wrestling Superstars the Ultimate
Warrior and Sabu. I met them both during the same year. With the Ultimate
Warrior I went to shock. With Sabu I grew scared. Very scared.”
The Answer: “I
worked for a while at an exclusive men’s store that catered to the well to do.
While straightening up the $180 silk ties one day, I was interrupted by my boss,
who then proceeded to introduce me to a very personable and pleasant gentlemen.
His name was Mac McLarty, and though I didn’t recognize his face I knew his
name. He was the current Chief of Staff of the then-President, Bill Clinton.
The Answer:
Lee Stoneking—He made a cream cheese dessert for my family. This was after
walking around the mall to find the right frame for a picture he had painted and
given to my father. Having another perspective is a good thing.
The Answer:
Matt Maddix at Buca.
The Answer:
Well, I wouldn’t say actually met would be factual, (but) I sent an
inquiry on Mark Condon’s website once and he responded and signed it “Mark.” Can
I sell that on ebay as an autograph?
The Answer:
General John P. Jumper, United States Air Force Chief of Staff. My father worked
with him in Europe, and I was the commander when I was a senior in high school,
and Gen. Jumper came to review a parade we organized for him.
The Answer:
Heather Graham, from Austin Powers 2. I was in Rockefeller Center
standing with some friends when a pretty girl, who I did not really notice
walked in. Our paths were crossing, then out of nowhere, press came from
everywhere and knocked me right into her. (I was still clueless.) So I made it
back alive to my friends and they are all freaking out! They told me who she
was. It was kind of exciting, but not really impressed. If it had been Brad
Pitt or something of that nature, well then…
The Answer: I
used to work in a video store in York, ME. Roger Moore of 007 fame was filming
a movie on Wells Beach, not far from the store. One day, he walked into the
store with his son to rent him a movie. Wow! And I was working alone,
with no one to tell—no one to verify! It was still very cool!
The Answer:
Rev. M. J. Wolfe (IL Dist Youth Camp), Rev. S. G. Norris (ABI), Rev. Bennie
DeMerchant (friend with his daughter), Rev. Gerald Grant (personal friend), Rev.
J. Leaman (via ABI), Rev. James Lumpkin (via ABI), Rev. Anthony Mangun (via ABI),
Rev. Hugh Rose (personal friend), Rev. Norman Pasley (served the ABI alumni
together), Rev. Scott Graham (went to youth camp together), and many others.
God’s people are the greatest!
The Answer: I
met Donnie McClurkin at his Back to Holiness conference in 2001. The night
before he was preaching and he said, “It doesn’t matter how you get baptized.”
I looked at my mom after he said that. Well, she had the chance to speak to him
the next day about that and while she was talking I was able to meet him and he
greeted me. Still I pray that God would show that it does matter how you
get baptized. In the name of Jesus Christ!
The Answer:
Guess I’d have to say, and it’s hard to admit this, but Dan Quayle. When he and
the original President Bush came to our town a few of us skipped classes to go
(our math teacher skipped with us). Then again...I didn’t meet him but I saw
Walter Payton at the Chicago Auto Show and got his autograph a couple weeks
after the Bears won the Super Bowl.
The Answer: I
met Ice-T in the mall when I was a teenager. He was very nice and requested a
hug. I wasn’t sure that it was him at first, but I saw all of these guys around
him with Syndicate posse jackets on (didn’t know what that was) and my friend
knew that it was him right away.
The Answer:
Former NFL great and announcer Dan Dierdorf, who I interviewed for the local
paper when his daughter’s high school basketball team played in my hometown.
The Answer: I
have met several famous people—Ronnie Coleman (eight time Mr. Olympia), Archie
Griffin (two time Heisman trophy winner), Mark Lowery (sang with the Gaithers),
Jarrod (Subway spokesman).
The Answer:
Jesus Christ—just kidding. I haven’t really “met” anyone. I have seen a few
like Bill Clinton, Gerald Ford. My sister met Jerry Springer, but I don’t think
that counts.
The Answer:
The most famous person I ever met was Dick Vitale while on vacation in Siesta
Key, FL. He lives on the Key and frequents a restaurant called The Broken Egg.
It just so happend that we at there the same day that he did. For those of you
who don’t know who Dick Vitale is he is a big college basketball announcer.
The Answer: I
was in England for summer college and visited Smith Polo field on a Sunday
afternoon. I walked around to the side where the Hot-de-Tot arrive, and within
minutes Prince Charles comes buzzing up in his throaty roadster. He dashes
inside but not before a quick nod of the head my way. About fifteen minutes
later, Princess Di (I’m not making this up) pulls up in a red sports car,
sashays down towards the entrance and actually looks right at me and smiles the
most beautiful smile. It gets better. As I was leaving, I was riding a bike
with one of my college mates on a narrow road and we started swerving and
suddenly there is a toot on the horn and we veer off onto the grass. We look
around and it’s the Queen, Charles, and Di all riding together. It
really happened. And I cried my eyes out the day of Princess Di’s funeral while
watching it on tape.
The Answer: I
once met CeCe Winans in a hotel during Gospel Music Week in Nashville. It was 8
a.m. and she still looked radiant. A beautiful lady.
The Answer: We
met Orlando Bloom one time coming home from a road trip/Bible Quizzing
Nationals. We had no idea what was going on until we saw a ton of screaming
girls and a security guard told us who he was. We got his autograph and he even
talked to one of my friends on my cell phone really quick. It was pretty cool,
but I lost his autograph not long after that. Anyway, he’s the most famous non-UPC
person I’ve ever met...
