Print Kristyn Leigh began singing at the age of seven in children’s church and choir. She began taking piano lessons at 11, along with voice, cello, and flute. At age 15 Kristyn realized the calling of God on her life to start her own music ministry. A couple years later she won a city-wide American Idol-type contest on a local (non-Christian) radio station by singing about Jesus. Shortly thereafter, she released Glimpse. The first three songs - “All That I Want,” “Bulletproof Girl,” and “Glimpse” - are very up-tempo and contemporary. They kind of remind me of Stacey Orrico/Amy Grant and are very professionally done. Here are some other highlights: ■ “Becoming the Me” is an inspiring song. It, too, is up beat and talks about growing in God and letting Him make you into the person He wants you to be:
I’m becoming the me God
wants me to be ■ “In Jesus Name” is a beautiful, moving song. We know the power in the name of Jesus and that is what this song speaks about. The maturity and quality of Leigh’s voice really comes through on this one as she shares:
In Jesus Name you’ll find
sweet forgiveness ■ “Heaven On Earth” would have to be my favorite. A jumpy, fun beat and good lyrics make this a feel-good kind of song.
I guess I’m one of those
people Glimpse is an excellent CD to add to your collection. She has some slow and worshipful songs (“Do Not Be Afraid,” “The Path,” “To Worship You!” - where her voice quality really comes through) alongside the fast and up beat (“What About Jesus” touched my heart and made me take inventory of my walk with God). With nearly all of the songs being written by Eric Copeland, I believe this project speaks to listeners of all ages.
