Lemons or Lemonade?
By Theresa Huff
December 19, 2005
Since I am from the South, I know exactly what hot is - sweat, mosquitoes . . . need I say more? If anything sends my mood downward, it is being hot. I hate the feel of getting dressed to go somewhere and being sweaty by the time I walk to the car from the house. Add to that the stresses of everyday life, and I sometimes become quite combustible. I must be an old grump who eats lemons for every meal. Maybe I just need to slow down, take life’s everyday lemons and turn them into lemonade.
Ahhh…the cool feel and refreshing taste of the lemonade as it slides down your throat. My mood is already beginning to improve. We need to take time to reflect on life’s blessings, rather than always focusing on our own needs (or perhaps its wants). Visualize the needs that you have had in your life and how they were many times supplied without your doing anything. After all, Paul said, “But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19).
Just as cool lemonade helps to relieve the hot and sweaty times, whenever we reflect on the goodness of God, a bad mood will dissipate, and a cool refreshing feeling will begin to flow. It makes you thankful that you took time out of an otherwise hot, busy, and frustrating day to cool off and reflect.
So, the next time life hands you lemons, just stop, smile, and make lemonade!
