survey sez!
Reader's responses to The Big Question.
The Question:
“What non-religious movie would you recommend your pastor see with you? Why?”
The Answer: “Napoleon
Dynamite. Actually, he already has seen it with us, several times. It’s a
timeless movie, very random, but clean.”
The Answer: “I
can’t even imagine my pastor watching movies. Let alone recommend one to him.”
The Answer: “Schindler’s
List with, of course, my finger on the feefee button. The movie is a great
testimony to the power of God in WWII Nazi Germany.”
The Answer:
“The movie is called Radio. We have the video, and I first saw it at a
family gathering. It is a movie based on a real life. It absolutely teaches
compassion for those who have handicaps. It’s so inspirational! Another movie
that all should see is Time Changer. It is religious. It’s a
b-movie (low budget), but the message is awesome. It’s about the authority of
the name of Jesus Christ. I bought about 8 of those videos to give out for
Christmas…it’s wonderful! Oh, wait, one more epic-video that’s awesome is
A.D. It’s a video collection of the Book of Acts. I believe you can get
it through Christian Bible Distributors. That’s where we got ours and it’s
fabulous!”
The Answer: “I
wouldn’t recommend any movie because they are all wrong.”
The Answer:
“Recommend a movie to my pastor? I don’t think so!”
The Answer: “Finding
Nemo! I have used that movie so many times to illustrate Biblical or
self-improving points. It’s a great movie that’s good for anyone, age 8 to 80.”
The Answer: “Bad
Boys II ...to understand me and my good friend.”
The Answer:
“I’m not sure what my pastor’s into.”
The Answer: “Napoleon
Dynamite - because it is rated G and hilarious!”
The Answer: “I
don’t know what style of movies he is into, but my favorite secular movie is
Napoleon Dynamite. It’s one you either love it or hate it because you don’t
get it. I’d share that with my pastor. Why? Because it’s as clean as a secular
movie comes, I guess, and it’s an awesome movie.”
The Answer: “Iron-Jawed
Angels, which is an intense movie about the suffrage movement in the early
20th century. It’s a little raw in places, but the historical value of such a
challenging era is worth seeing. Some A/P pastors tend to write off feminism
entirely, but what they don’t necessarily understand is that today’s feminism is
a twisted derivative of the early quest for equality: the right to vote, the
right to hold property, the right to be trusted, the right to be considered a
worthwhile human being. I think this film is, at the very least, a starting
point toward understanding how women today are taught to think about themselves,
their families, and their lives. Since the majority of A/P’s are women,
it would be great if pastors knew a little about our gender’s recent history.”
The Answer: “Spaceballs...It’s
hilarious!”
The Answer: “The
Antoine Fisher Story because it’s a movie about redemption. Since it’s based
on a true story, the movie only shows negative aspects for the purpose of
showing the power of change and not for gratuitous reasons, as in far too many
films.”
The Answer:
“I’d be embarrassed for my pastor to see most of the movies I own.”
