Reader's responses to The Big Question.

The Question: With music so readily available on-line, do you still buy CDs in the store, buy them online, or download them illegally?

The Answer: “Online mostly—I do not download them illegally. Those who call themselves Christian should not violate copyright laws.”

The Answer: “This question amuses me. Whoever wrote it seems to think that illegal downloading is still widespread. Meanwhile, those of us with iPods have moved on. Illegal downloads are so last century. We legally download our music now for 99 cents a song.”

The Answer: “I buy most of my CDs in the store, but every now and then I'll have a CD downloaded.”

The Answer: “If it's someone I'm a big fan of, I like to have the liner notes, so I buy it at Target. If not, I download from iTunes. The only exception to this is Apostolic artists and choirs who can't be found anywhere but at church functions. I would love it if their stuff was on iTunes.”

The Answer: “I don't do any of those. I can't readily afford $15 a pop (average) for CDs, and I'm certainly not going to download illegally, so I listen to the ‘Camp Meeting Gospel’ station at Live365.”

The Answer: “I usually get my sister to burn CDs that she has for me. I rarely ever buy CDs anymore.”

The Answer: “In the store.”

The Answer: “Buy online—like to choose by songs, not CD. I usually only like a few songs on each CD anyway!”

The Answer: “If I want a whole CD, I go to the store and buy it. If I'm just looking for one song, I do it the illegal way.”

The Answer: “I mostly buy CDs in the store, burn CDs from friends/family, or order through catalogs.”

The Answer: “Order online.”

The Answer: “Buy CDs.”

The Answer: “Buy CDs in the store (despite outrageous prices).”

The Answer: “I buy music online (Rhapsody) and through BMG Music Club. I've never downloaded illegally, but I did find a website recently advertised on 90&9 with a free sample song and chord chart listed online, but it clearly said ‘Free’ and ‘Sample,’ so I felt no pangs about downloading it and promptly telling all my friends about this awesome new song and service from www.spirit-song.net.”

The Answer: “Occasionally, as in every 2-3 years, I buy. Most of the time I listen to live365 on the Internet. Or download stuff free. Ain't America great?”

The Answer: “I usually purchase online. No Mark Condon CDs available in stores locally here. That is just wrong!”

The Answer: “Mostly buy them online. No CD cases to mess with, no wrap to peel off, no security stickers to fight with. It’s awesome!”

The Answer: “I still buy CD's. I normally buy them from brick-and-mortar stores, but occasionally from an online store.”

The Answer: “I buy them in the store, and occasionally online.”

The Answer: “I usually buy CDs from the Pentecostal Publishing House when I go to Youth Convention or Youth Congress. When I return home from the event, I will burn them into my computer and then burn them back onto other blank CDs for other people. (If you have scratches on your CDs, put toothpaste on your finger and wipe it onto the CD and then wipe it off gently with a Kleenex. It works!).”

The Answer: “I listen to Launch Cast on Yahoo.”

The Answer: “I buy CDs in the store. I like getting what I want as soon as I pay for it.”

The Answer: “Since I'm too cheap to buy an iPod and too discriminating to buy a cheap knockoff, I buy my music on CDs in the store. I have to say, though, it's really annoying that so many CDs that I purchase legally have horrid security programs that won't allow me to play the music on my laptop. I understand not letting me load the music (sort of), but if I buy the music, shouldn't I be allowed to listen to it using any device I want? If I had a laptop, I'd skip the frustration and buy them legally online.”

The Answer: “I've repented and now hit Walmart.com for 88 cents a pop.”

The Answer: “If I have to have a CD, I buy it in the store. Otherwise I listen to my 45's and tapes.”

The Answer: “Download them illegally unless it's a CD I really like—then I buy it in the store or online, whichever is easier/cheaper.”
