Reader's responses to The Big Question.
The Question:
What is one major purchase that you have made in the last year? Are you pleased
or regretful?
The Answer:
“My car, a Ford Focus
hatchback. I'm pretty happy with it, except that my last car was paid off, so
now I have a monthly payment again. My car does get pretty decent gas mileage,
though, so I guess it all balances out.”
The Answer:
“I purchased a 2-year
gym membership. At the time, I thought that signing a 2-year contract would be
insurance that my future self would continue exercising regularly. Now, my work
schedule is busier and I haven't had time to go in a month and a half. It was a
ridiculous purchase, especially since I have exercise equipment at work.”
The Answer:
“We purchased a car and
are very pleased and grateful to God for the opportunity to do this.”
The Answer:
“I bought a $700 digital
camera about 3 weeks ago, and so far I'm very happy with my purchase.”
The Answer:
“My BlackBerry. I am
quite pleased with it. It's not perfect, but it's a great toy (and it's pretty
useful as a phone or PDA, too).”
The Answer:
“I did not buy one major
thing that cost a lot of money, but I went to the Illinois Youth Convention
April 12-14 and that trip costs almost $200 dollars to go. It was very
expensive, but I really enjoyed hearing Bro. Wayne Francis preach! It was one of
the most important, but yet expensive experiences in my life. God bless each one
of you!”
The Answer:
“My car. For the most
part, I'm pleased, but I do regret having to make those monthly payments (Who
doesn't regret that?).”
The Answer:
“Plane tickets to
England. I'm definitely very pleased about it, but I'll know for sure in June
when I go!”
The Answer:
“The only major purchase
I made was taking out a student loan for college. I am both pleased and
regretful, mostly because I haven't yet found employment in my field.
Nonetheless, I am pleased because I graduated from that school.”
The Answer:
“I am very pleased with
my iPod!”
The Answer:
“I have not made many
major purchases this past year. However, my pastor told our church that we
should work on building up our own libraries, with stuff about the church. My
first purchase toward that goal was Dividing the Word of Truth, and I
have most pleased with what I am learning from this study guide. Not to mention
the music I have found to bolster my own reading library.”
The Answer:
“A new mini-van. Time
will tell. If it gets 250,000 miles like the last one, I'll be very pleased.”
The Answer:
“My new sofa, and I
love it!”
The Answer:
“A new computer with a
really big screen and I am so pleased! It makes eBay buying and selling so much
more enjoyable.”
The Answer:
“My laptop—I'm very
pleased with it and glad I didn't wait any longer. No buyer's remorse for me!”
The Answer:
“I purchased a car! 2004
Impala! I am very, very pleased. It's the first major thing I've done on
my own without my folks’ help.”
The Answer:
“A house—very pleased.”
The Answer:
“Another digital camera.
Yes, I am happy. Who wouldn't be with 7.2 mp and a 1G card?”
The Answer:
“On my education. I’m
happy”
The Answer:
“A new car. I am very
pleased with the car and very displeased with the car payments. However, I did
not have much of an option, as I need transportation and my engine blew up in my
other car. Overall—pleased! No regrets.”
The Answer:
“2006 Honda Civic—oh so
pleased.”
The Answer:
“Let's see—do vacations
count? If so, a trip to Alaska that was wonderful —no regrets.”
The Answer:
“Laptop—pleased.”
The Answer:
“My clothes washer. I
love my Maytag!”
The Answer:
“Home—I am very
pleased.”
