Reader's responses to The Big Question

The Question: “When I need to get away / escape from the hustle and bustle of life, I…”

The Answer: “The ocean...watching the waves roll in or else on our boat just outside the
Golden Gate or in Monterey Bay...fishing for salmon. Even if I don't get a bite, just being on the water relaxes my soul or anywhere where there are trees and lots of green...just listening to God's nature is a little bit on heaven on earth.”

The Answer: “I go to the beach.”

The Answer: “Go out and sit in my garden and talk to God about what is pressing me.”

The Answer: “Go to Borders, order coffee, and look at books and magazines until I feel ready to face the world again. It's the perfect place to disappear for a while.”

The Answer: “I try to find a quiet place to read a good book!”

The Answer: “Read a book or pray.”

The Answer: “Do something that some might call irresponsible, but I just call spontaneous. What exactly I do varies, but it could be running through the streets playing
in the rain or buying a plane ticket to go to New York the next morning.”

The Answer: “Go back behind where I live. There is a trail that leads into the woods. I just walk out there and I have a little spot where I can sit. It's really quiet and
no one can find me. It's great!”

The Answer: “I can't afford to go anywhere, so I sit and suffer.”

The Answer: “Head out for 18 holes of golf (with a cart of course) and moi.”

The Answer: “Curl up with a good book, watch a movie, sleep, or go visit my family.”

The Answer: “Well I used to take a bus into Seattle and chill out at Pike Place Market
and/or Uwajimaya, and whatnot. But I'm stuck in this lame part of the country
where there's not much to do but take a walk in the woods, unless I want to
drive an hour or three to get somewhere interesting. So I take walks. Or I read
a book, or sew something on my sewing machine.”

The Answer: “Read a book.”

The Answer: “Go on vacation!”

The Answer: “Go for a long walk with loud music on.”

The Answer: “Take a good book, cold water, iPod, comfy chair, and big towel and park myself on the beautiful Florida beaches all day!”

The Answer: “I go to the beach and lie in the sand, listen to the crashing waves, and work on my tan. Speaking of...it's time to plan the next fry fest.”

The Answer: “Go for a long drive without my cell phone.”

The Answer: “Blog.”

The Answer: “I go for a drive all by myself and listen to music.”

The Answer: “Take a shower.”

The Answer: “Get in my car and just drive with no particular destination.”

The Answer: “Go hang out in my backyard swing. My husband and daughter know that if I have a book in my hand and a disgruntled look on my face, that they should move out of my way! Also, I've discovered that mowing the yard (riding mower) is a good escape. I can't hear my cell phone, I can't be reached for mommy/wife duty, and it's just me and the mower. My husband is amazed that I want to do yard work! If I really want to escape, I go to Cancun, but that's rare!”

The Answer: “Brew a cup of tea and pull out a book.”

The Answer: “Listen to really loud music while driving my car.”

The Answer: “Play my guitar, paint, run, drive fast with the radio up to no apparent
destination.”
