A Diamond In The Rough
By Theresa Huff

Diamonds are one of the most beautiful jewels to be seen - shiny, sparkly, expensive, and downright gorgeous! Many of us count the hours and days until that special someone goes down on bended knee, pops the question, and produces the ring we have waited for all of our life. But, wait a minute - a diamond doesn't start out that way. They come from deep within the earth and take much work to be made into the marketable item that we see and covet.
Compare it to us as sinners coming to Christ. Jesus finds us in the "miry clay" with not a beautiful bone in us. He begins to mold and make us as He sees fit. As we surrender our ways and thoughts to Him, the more we begin to shine. This remaking isn't done by an unskilled laborer, but by the Master Jeweler Himself! As we take on the characteristics of Christ, our worth to His kingdom begins to increase. A diamond is made so that when it is cut, the shine reflects through the top of the diamond to show at its greatest brilliance. As Christians, that is the way we should be. We let Jesus cut, clean, and polish until His love shines through us, so that, when others see us, it's a reflection of Jesus they see!
"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven" (Matthew 5:16).
