Publishing the story of the church fire at Heavenview UPC last week proved to us again that most of our readers care about timely Apostolic news. As proof of this, our readership numbers steadily jumped into mid-week (instead of starting high on Monday and slowly dripping downward), due to readers forwarding the cover URL to others, allowing the self-perpetuating e-ripples to continue indefinitely.

We’re happy to publish newsworthy events (witness this week’s coverage of Bishop T.D. Jakes’ visit to New Life Tabernacle UPC in Brooklyn), but we need people willing to report it for us. If you’re attending a conference, a convention, or an unusual occurrence within Apostolic ranks, then start taking notes and write it up for us. People want to know what’s going on today. (We’re also seeking a News Editor to help coordinate it.)

Care about 90&9? Then slap that Press Pass onto your hat and start scribbling!

RE: “We want our church to be on fire, but not quite that way,” quipped Pastor Harold Linder as the local news station interviewed him.”

Ya gotta give it to Harold. He’s consistent! Even in tough times he makes you smile. New York supports you and Lisa, friend.

RE: Church Fire

Thank you for the opportunity to share Heavenview’s story and the blessings we’ve experienced since our church burned.

Let me give you a quick update. The elementary school across the street from the church has offered the use of their gymnasium, rent-free for six months! We had our first service there on Pentecost Sunday, just one week after the fire. Pastor Linder preached on “Beauty for Ashes” and Holy Ghost fire filled the gymnasium. A local TV station was back for the service to do a follow-up story. The cameraman stayed for the majority of the service and got a good dose of what an Apostolic service is like. Tears streamed down our faces as the choir sang, “I am a Friend of God,” and we realized how blessed we were to have Him in our corner, working out the little details.

Pastor Linder is a firm believer in sacrificial giving to the cause of Christ. He teaches that God will reward in ways we can’t even fathom. Our church has been very generous with missionaries, evangelists, and other ministers who have visited our church. Because of our sacrificial giving, many cards and letters have come in from those same people we gave to, except this time, they are giving back to us. You can never outgive God!

Pastor Linder says he is amazed at the outpouring of love and concern, and thanks everyone for their prayers. Apostolic churches from across the nation have called to offer their support, and several churches from around the community have called to offer their facilities and assistance. We’re excited about what God will do next!

RE: “Making the Point and Not Getting It”

I did want to respond to this. I say right on brother, who ever you are. I was looking for some encouragement this morning, after hearing comments that were made about me again, for leaving the so-called Apostolic Church. The comment was something like, “Oh my God, he is going to a Baptist Church!” I don’t really have a church home at this time, but for me I think it is supposed to be about loving Jesus and wanting to be like him. I think churches of all types are missing the point. I think it becomes more about the preacher’s glory, the glory of the buildings, programs etc., than about having the love of God. I almost said showing the love of God. Sometimes people put on a show of love. Lord help me to have more love for others.

RE: “Letter about divorce”

I wanted to encourage you to keep doing what you feel is the right thing to do. I have been right where you are and have prayed for God to restore my marriage. I, too, fasted, trusted, and believed for the miraculous! I want you to know every situation is different. There is no cookie-cutter design on how to handle a spouse who makes unbiblical decisions regarding marital vows. The only way to make it through this very difficult time is to let God lead and guide your every step. I am purposely not going to tell you how my situation ended because my main purpose in writing this is to let you know God has a specific plan for you. You cannot compare your situation with others.

I will tell you though that God will bless you tremendously for trusting in Him. Again, keep doing what you are doing: devote yourself to God, church and your child and He will direct your paths!
