Letters

June 26, 2006

After 54 days we finally have our laptop back—it’s a long story—and I cannot even begin to express how thankful I am. It’s funny how you get used to something. It doesn’t even have to be the most state-of-the-art whatever, you’re just used to it. You get accustomed to the convenience, or the way it works for you. I expect by next week we will probably forget how long we were without it and just how much pain it was to work on a clunky PC. But for now, I am most assuredly thankful!

I’m also thankful for how many readers write letters, answer the Big Question and especially those who submit articles. This e-zine is only as interesting as you make it.

Re: “Pentecost Sunday with TD Jakes at a UPC Church

The Lord had a good reason for his instructions not to plow an ox with an ass. In this case it is difficult to discern which is the ox and which is the ass. When we allow false prophet and teachers to fill our pulpits for the purpose of a crowd we play the whore. Just like the king that built the Damascus altar and placed it in the Temple.

Re: “End of the Spear

I’m old enough to remember when these young men were killed for the name of Jesus. I later read Rachel Saint’s life story. I’ve seen the DVD and I’ve seen the movie. They both tell the story but from different perspectives. I would recommend watching both plus reading books on the subject. Some of us who hold a very narrow view of the plan of salvation may have a problem on just where and how people like these missionaries fit into the plan and program of God.

Re: “Pentecost Sunday Jubilation with T.D.Jakes

It is appalling and absolutely inappropriate to have T.D.Jakes minister at an Apostolic, UPC church. He is not strongly Oneness! He is most certainly not claiming to be, either! He also is definitely not “the preacher of all preachers” either!

It is a spirit of ecumenicalism, of Oneness with Trinitarians and backsliders, that is the New Wave in our churches today. It is perfectly typified by this “Jubilation” and your magazine promotes it very often. I wish I could say I was surprised or shocked at this kind of thing—but I’m not. It is entirely typical of the way the United Pentecostal Church is heading, and has been heading for many years. You can have your “Latter Rain Revival” and new ways—I will take the Old Paths.

Re: “Essentials of a Military Spouse

I totally agree. I am a wife of an Air Force officer. This is even worse for me since sometimes the enlisted in churches will not hang with us. And we also get treated weird by our neighbors since most in the church are not officers. Officers and their families depend on their money and rank a lot. I thank God I know the truth and trust Him.

Re: “Entertainment or Ministry: Apostolics and Music

If this guy hadn’t listened to secular music as a child, he would never have been inspired to learn how to play and therefore would never have been able to use his talent for the work of the Lord. Furthermore, if Apostolics only use Apostolic music to draw from as their repertoire, our Praise and Worship services would be tragic.

Re: “Non-existent Letters and Answers

I didn’t realize how much I enjoy reading the feedback letters and BQ answers until they weren’t there! I was very disappointed. I think you should have made some up.

Keep up the good work, 90&9, you’re the bomb!

Re: “Military Spouses

Thank you for this timely article. I sometimes refer to spouses of deployed members as Married Single Parents. They have all the responsibilities of a single parent; they just can’t date!

These wonderful women do an amazing job of holding down the home front. Although I’m currently forward deployed in the Persian Gulf, I have no doubt who has the toughest job in my family: my wife. She manages this feat with grace, patience, and tact. I get body armor, a “brain bucket,” and a gun. She gets three boys!

I realize that we military folks are but a very small population within the larger community of 90&9, but thank you for publishing this article.

If I may, I would also ask that we all keep our military families in your prayers. They are our national treasure!

Re: “True Grace

I would like to commend Bradley Titus on this article.

I am very proud of his efforts and the shining example he has set for others. He has truly shown others how God can put our lives on the right course. His parents and family structure exemplify what is needed for all families in today’s world.

You see, I know of his family and am very proud of each of them. I am not as strong in their faith as they are but I do believe. (I am Bradley’s maternal grandfather.)

Please tell me you’re joking. Please.

Re: “Entertainment or Ministry: My Thoughts On Apostolics and Music

Is it wrong to purchase music that benefits Trinitarians? Do they love God? Are they worshiping the Lord? Does that group have those who are passionate for Christ? Many are filled with the Holy Spirit. How can we judge them when God has graciously filled them with His Spirit?

The disciples of Jesus once said, we told him to stop because he was not one of us. Jesus said, “He that is not against us is with us.”

Praise the Name of the Only Awesome God that there Is—Jesus, just Jesus alone.   This was my second attendance at Summons to Sacrifice.  I am a post-Katrina evacuee to Texas via New Orleans, Louisiana.

Dr. Gerald Jeffers had a word in his mouth for the people of God. It was deliverance from the time he arose to after he came down and the glory of God elevated the people of God with power from on high.  Dr. Jeffers spoke a word concerning people of God receiving financial blessing.

I am not a ‘prosperity’ focused saint but have learned to abase and abound.  However, when I was rerouted on my trip home from the Summons, one of my best enemies commanded me to stop and spend some time with them in Dallas on my way back to Austin, Texas.  For years, this particular family member has expressed extreme hatred for everything that I believe in so I was hesitant about stopping over after the tremendous blessing that had been poured into my soul.  However, I felt led of the Lord to visit in Dallas.  When I arrived in Dallas, at their apartment, only after one hour of resting there, I was called to the dining room table and handed a check for $2,500.  Then, rolls of 100 dollar bills were given to me to count.  At this point I was very unsure of what to do.  This relative is very wealthy but has never extended to assist my husband and three children over the years.  All the kids are grown now.

The hundred dollar bills covered my end of the dining room table in stacks.  Then my relative says to me after I reported how much I had counted, “is that all that is there?  Give me your checking account number so I can go to the bank and finish making another deposit!”

The next day I left Dallas with several, several thousands of dollars. Don't tell me what God can't do!  And my relative has called me twice to tell me that they have not made it to the bank yet to make the deposit into my checking account but that as soon as they can get to the bank, they are ready to make the deposit.  In Dr. Jeffers message, he said that some of us were going to be blessed to become millionaires and that bankers would start sending money to us.  Well, the Lord has caused me to receive a nice deposit on my million.

Praise the Name of Jesus!  I can serve God without so much fretting about the bills now!
