Stand Up!

Recently, I was helping the doctor I work for hold a baby still so that the doctor could get a good look into his ears. The baby’s sibling, about 3 years old, was standing there watching with a huge frown on his face. I assured him that we were not hurting "his baby" and that we were trying to help him feel better. With dark eyes glaring at me and a no-nonsense look in his eye, he lifted his hand and shook his little fist at me quite ferociously. He wasn't a bit shy about taking up for his baby brother. His mother was
mortified and began to fuss at him for his rudeness. I told her not to worry, that it was fine that he felt he needed to stand up for his brother.

Then it hit me—how often do we stand up for what we truly believe? How many times are we afraid to speak up when another walks on our faith? We don't seem to be the least bit intimidated to say what we think when our personal life is affected, so why are
we so reticent about standing up for our godly beliefs or values? We should never be ashamed of the name of Jesus (Isaiah 40:8).

Why should we, as God's people, let the atheists tell us we can't pray at school or in a public place? I say the more of us that take a firm stand, the more that makes us the winner.

So take that stand. Don't be ashamed. Be a winner! Stand up! (II Thessalonians 2:15-17)
