The
Small Prayer for the Big Watch

My
dad was devastated. He lost a watch that had been given to him for 25 years of
service at his job. The back was engraved with his name, and he had just bought
a special band for the watch.
What
is interesting to me is that my dad has never been materialistic, and to see the
distress in him saddened me as well. He spent several days looking everywhere
and could not find it. He even left work early one day to try and retrace his
steps and see if he could remember where he left it.
I
remember the look on his face as he walked out the door and I started to chuckle
because he reminded me of a little boy who lost his puppy. I then recalled the
many times I have misplaced things and how distraught I feel, so I decided to
say a little prayer for my dad and his missing watch.
Later
that night I got an excited call from my dad—he found the watch! He had taken
a suit coat to the cleaners, and they had discovered it in his coat pocket. He
was thrilled! I told him about the simple prayer I prayed and we both said,
“Thank you, Jesus,” in unison.
Jesus
made this promise: “And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer,
believing, ye shall receive” (Matthew 21:22). Now I know it’s a small
thing, but the Lord knew it was special to my dad and so it was special to Him.

keep the air around her fresh as she works in an old, mold-infested building.
