July’s Different: Summer Fun with Music, Writing, and Youth Congress

July 2, 2007

By Kent d Curry

For a weekly publication, July and December are the months to take chances. July is summer’s midpoint, a combination of distractions and, often, a slower rhythm, while December, especially the second half of the month, signals holiday cheer and a releasing of regular habits. These are great periods for the unusual.

So ninetyandnine.com’s going to feel different most of this month, but just as an experiment. If you can’t have fun mid-Summer you’ll never have fun.

Experimental Blogs

We’re adding two new group blogs for July only (unless you scream for more). Each is oriented around a theme most readers will feel passionate about. To keep it fresh, each blogger will be featured on a different day of every week in July. So you might find Monday and Thursdays are the most invigorating days of the week because two interesting Apostolics are sharing their like-minded passions.

The July blogs are:

  • Word will center around writing and reading. It’ll be dissecting books, explaining the special challenges of writing doctrine or fiction, pondering special writing challenges in the Pentecostal nation, and anything else related. Drop by every Monday through Saturday to catch the latest.

  • Notes will highlight five Apostolic singers / songwriters / musicians discussing worship, the challenges of creating a CD, the difficulties of writing songs, the convergence of the secular with the sacred, and more. Don’t miss a different blogger every July Monday through Friday.

Special thanks to CS for all her hard work in getting these blogs formatted!

Regular Blogs

Not that we won’t be offering our regularly scheduled blogs. You know them as:

  • House Calls will be wrapping up Stu’s final month in the blogosphere. If you don’t get your daily dose of laughs, fascinating links, and the most unusual pictures ever, then you’ve only got July left to enjoy him!

  • Month in the Life will feature that groundbreaking couple who starred in the highest rated Wife Swap episode ever, Steve and Kristen Hoover, as they share their lives meandering to Mennonite family reunions and a few other unusual (for the rest of us) events.

  • Collideoscope will continue their wide cultural coverage from an Apostolic standpoint, with thoughts on movies, YouTube (almost the same thing now), celebrities, and maybe even the International Comic Con.

Youth Congress Exclusives

Only ninetyandnine.com will be offering behind-the-scenes interviews of the many speakers, planners, and musicians participating in the Apostolic Super Bowl. We’ll be ferreting out the significant stories, getting explanations on new events (live interviews in the foyer? An “intentional gathering” of 20somethings? Social projects?), and giving you the best preparation possible before arriving.

Then we’ll be offering wall-to-wall coverage of the event from August 8-10, 2007 with a team of bloggers, giving everyone at home the next best thing to being there. Trust us, you’ll be so close you can taste it.

So Kick Your Shoes Off and Run Through the Sand with us!

So yes, we’ll be having fun in July.

If you miss the usual articles, don’t fret. But if you like the new, relaxed formats, let us know. We’re always open to continuing a good thing.
