Letters

July 23, 2007

Congratulations to 90&9 contributing editor Cara Davis on the birth of Madilyn! She is a beautiful baby and baby, Mommy, and Dad are doing well.

Almost eight years ago when we began ninetyandnine.com we never expected it to go this well, this long, and affect so many lives. Through the web zine our range of friends and acquaintances has grown so much, enriching us by the blessings of our friends. Cara has been so invaluable to our web zine and I just wanted to take this time to thank her for everything. She has selflessly dedicated time, energy, her talents, and money for this zine. She is a wonderful person and if any of you ever get the chance you need to meet her—your life will be much richer!

Thanks for everyone who submits articles and letters. (Just remember to keep your letters in the 350 range or we’ll have to edit it down.)

Enjoy God in your life this week, won’t you?

Re: “Praying God’s Will for Your Life

I thought that your article was outstanding, and it made some things a whole lot clearer to me than what they were. Thank you for writing this article.

Re: “Obeying all of the “Standards” of the UPC

I am Apostolic Pentecostal and I too have issues with the dress policies. I wear good decent clothing. I wear shorts that come to my knees and they are very lose (I like them that way) and I wear Capris (pants very lose) and I wear sleeveless tops (they don’t show anything).

I agree with what I have in this truth and I will not turn away from my religion because others give me the look—I really don’t care and I get the movement of the Lord just as much as they do and actually maybe more when in church, but hey, I am not God and I do not believe Jesus came down and told anyone to judge us for what we wear—as long as we don’t wear stuff that shows everything we have, maybe like some “True Apostolic” wear, you know, the really tight dress with no slip under and you can see every bump in their body kind of stuff. I am very modest in what I wear.

The other thing I will add is there are a difference between conviction and condemnation!

The difference is conviction will come from God; He is the only one that can convict us of our wrongdoings. Condemnation comes from many Pentecostal church members who look at others and judge them or make them feel like they are doing something wrong.

They can look, they can talk, and they can judge me all they want as long as I am tight with God that is all that matters because the only person responsible for getting me into heaven is me!

I will not give up my beliefs for any other church as I feel like this is it—this is real.

Live for God and not for others!

Also, I have never even heard of this site before and while doing my homework (I am 44, but have gone back to college) this site actually just popped up and the letter to Dear Gabby about the UPC dress standards was there.

This was so awesome. I just wanted you to know that just out of the blue it popped up! God is awesome!

Do you think maybe He wants the Apostolics to realize how many people they discourage from the religion due to their convicting/condemning ways?
