Reader's
responses to The Big Question.
The Question: Describe a miracle you
experienced or witnessed.
Answer: “A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth
him before great men.” Proverbs 18:16. Because it reminds me that God gave
me talents and abilities (gifts if you will) and that His provision makes a way.
No one has to open their own doors or make their own opportunities.”
Answer: “UPCI, October 2007, TV resolution.”
Answer: “Philippians 4:6-8, Here we are reminded who we
are. Whose we are. How to live and hope and think. Paul reminding us of proper
conduct and at the same time, giving encouragement. Paul writes this with such
passion and love. It is very moving.”
Answer: “About six months ago, I developed some sort of
rash all over my body that was itchy and painful. I couldn’t sleep through the
night because I would wake up clawing at my body, scratching until the skin
broke. This lasted about a week, until our Sunday night service. The power of
God moved mightily, and there was a first time visitor in our service. He came
to the altar shouting that he’d been healed. The day before, he had broken his
leg to the point where the doctors were saying he’d need to have physical
therapy and surgery in order to even “sort of” fix it. But, he was claiming the
victory and wanted to cut his cast off right then and there.
Our pastor wanted him to wait and talk to a doctor regarding
this, so the man went home, cut off his cast and came back into the church. He
began to slam his once broken leg down on the concrete and claim the victory in
Jesus name. There was no pain. We claimed it as a miracle in Jesus’ name.
People then began to ask our pastor who “was playing the trumpet
tonight?” Several saints said that they heard trumpet playing going during the
song service and altar call, but we didn’t have a trumpet player present during
the service. In fact, the only person playing anything remotely close to the
trumpet was our clarinet player—and she said she heard the trumpet as well.
After that two people at separate times came forward and said that they saw
angels.
After witnessing and hearing all of this, I realized tears were
pouring down my face and all I could do was worship God. I began to feel a
tingling feeling all over my body and I knew it was the presence of God touching
me. I slept through the night that Sunday and have had no instances of that rash
since then! God is so good! That had to have been one of the most apostolic
services I’ve ever been in!”
Answer: “I was on chorale tour and I was helping pray for
a young boy who had been deaf since birth. He started jolting around because he
had never heard anything until the moment he got healed. I can’t imagine how
scared he must have been, but it was really amazing to see when he started
jumping around realizing that he had been healed. He did a flip down the
aisle—it was really a phenomenal experience!”
Answer: “Just this week my best friend’s mother returned
from Chicago where she was being treated for cancer. She had been diagnosed with
stage three. She returned only to receive a phone call from the hospital down
there. They’d have to stop treating her, as they can find no trace of the cancer
at all!”
Answer: “My children being born.”
Answer: “I’ll go with the most recent: yesterday I had
pain from my back around my side and felt awful. The doctors I work with
diagnosed me with a kidney infection and gave me a prescription. I forgot the
prescription at work because I was running late and almost missed the vanpool. I
got home and started feeling worse with more pain. My husband and I prayed for
God to heal my body and the pain went away. This morning I feel better than
ever! :) Thank you, Jesus!”
Answer: “My ankles were healed at the National Singles
Conference in Memphis this past June!”
Answer: “When I first walked into a UPC church I had over
a dozen piercings spread around my entire body. I had been in church about a
month and was invited to attend a ladies conference. I still had no particular
conviction regarding my piercing, but out of respect for my church I took out
all the obviously visible ones.
During the conference I went to the altar to pray for the
infilling of the Holy Ghost. That was really the first time in my life I had
ever even ‘kind of sort of’ believed in God. I had been doing Bible studies but
they were more just an academic study of literature than anything else. But in
that room with all those women praying their hearts out I began to wonder if
there really wasn’t something more out there. I felt something.
I went to the altar still not completely convinced that He
existed. I was praying (without a great understanding of really what I was
praying for) I asked God to show me His presence by moving my tongue in such a
way that I could experience tongues like everyone else there did and so I could
have His spirit inside of me. He replied, in an audible masculine voice (notice
there were no men in the room, I was at a ladies conference) just inside my ear,
“How can I move your tongue when you have a post through it?” I still had my
tongue ring in. I went to the rest room removed it and went back in and received
the Holy Ghost.
I realize that is less of a miracle and more of a testimony. But
it was a miracle that God spoke to me an (at that point), disbelieving,
unrepented sinner. Who was, half earnestly praying, half preparing her list of
things to make fun of these “religious nuts” about. He spoke to me. He made me
believe. He has a sense of humor!”
