Letters

October 29, 2007

The weather in St Louis is beautiful. I love autumn and the changing of the tree colors. It always causes me stop, look, and marvel at God’s creation. Sometimes I think that maybe that is why God makes it all look so beautiful, so that we will stop a second from our busy schedules to breath in the air, and sigh at the pictures He gives us each day!

Thanks to everyone who continues to participate through letters and article submissions. We just finished the first round of judging on our short stories, so hopefully we’ll announce the winners soon.

Re: “Spiritual Bulimia

I thoroughly enjoyed this message from God. It’s so true. I often see comparisons between our natural and spiritual appetites and nutrition. There are too many addictions in this world today. Being addicted to Jesus has benefits now and eternal rewards. Praise God!

Re: “The Forum

Dear Bro. Curry and all of who made The Forum possible.

I pray this e-mail finds you well. I wish to express my sincerest thanks for preparing The Forum. The topics were all extremely relevant, and the messages and discussions were a great blessing. Thank you for covering topics such as Stereotyping Within the Church, Adapting to the 21st Century Without Sacrificing Doctrine, and Unconventional Evangelism, that are not talked about elsewhere. Also thanks for providing food the added cost of eating out every meal can be a burden for us on a grad student’s budget.

There were a few areas that you may wish to consider for improvement. The web registration was a little disconcerting, I know from my work that PayPal has other forms that may be a better choice. Additionally a brief (1-2 paragraphs) decapitation of the conference on the web page would be nice. Last of all, encouraging the speakers to use or have handouts more often would be nice. Please do not take my comments as criticism, but merely observations.

Finally, thanks for all the hard work. Lord willing I hope to be at next year’s Forum.

Re: “Sing a New Song by Jonathan Dean

From my reading of the Old and New Testament God gave instructions on what He required in even the minutest of detail. So, for example, He told Moses to ensure that he built the tabernacle exactly in accordance with the pattern He had shown him. God designed the clothing that the priests were to wear. He decided when they went into the temple, how they should go in, what they should wear, what they should do and when they should, etc, etc.

So as long as the music that we wish to offer up to God today is inspired by Him, He will accept it. Anything else is just an effort in futility, vanity and vexation of spirit, no matter what we may think.

Re: “A Creative God Dances to New Creations

This article was well-worded! I’m glad someone has the courage to call it like it is. That “comfortable” nostalgia is such a hindrance to some people. They aren’t worshipping the God of the here and now—they are worshiping a feeling that makes them warm and fuzzy. Kudos to the author!

Re: “A Creative God Dances

They won’t come to the pulpit with a sermon borrowed from the 1950’s. How about a sermon borrowed from ad 33? Would that be okay? :-)

By the way, I like the new and the old songs both.

Re: “Somewhere Over the Rainbow

Did you watch the movie and would you recommend it to all UPCer’s?
