Letters November 12, 2007
There are so many negative things in our world, things that are ugly, nasty, and downright depressing. I, most of the time, choose not to see our world this way. I’m not as cynical as many people (even Christians) I know, but sometimes you just want to hear of something really amazing that someone is doing. Well, the other day while waiting for a tire repair, I happened on an article that caught my attention. It gave me hope—that is all I can say. It gave me hope that there are people who don’t really thrive on fame or fortune, but who are willing to devote their talents for Him. I think it shows all of us that God can use people in more ways than we think.
Thanks to everyone who is allowing God to use them when they submit articles, testimonies, and letters. ninetyandnine only ministers when you contribute.
Re: “Sometimes My Sermon Stinks”
I wanted to comment on this subject; I preached a message in a revival, and the pastor came to me with tears in his eyes saying how much that sermon was needed for his congregation.
I preached the same sermon later, and the pastor was angry with me because I had preached to his congregation a sermon that only Pastors should have preached. I was so heartbroken, I cried for days.
The thing that was so surprising was that all of the people in the congregation responded so well, and were very touched. The pastor, after I had preached, went to the Bible stand, and it was as though, he was making light of my sermon.
It might have been that his views on the old-fashioned way was changing.

Re: Questions Concerning Resolution 4 Fallout
Dave Charles in Michigan had a question about a rumored break-up of the UPC. I do have some inside information regarding that. Apparently, from what I’ve heard by some very reliable sources close to the facts, at least one very large church in the Western District (who shall remain nameless) has submitted letters to its top, local church leaders alerting them to not only a possible pull-out, but also the formation of another organization (apparently there are other churches involved).
I cannot mention names, but this said church has a lot (emphasis) of influence, to wit, it has been joined by an established church in Northern California, a prominent church in Southern California, and a very prominent, large church on the East Coast (those are the only ones I know of). Without revealing any more, some of the ministers involved are very (emphasis) “high up” officials and are extremely influential in their respective circles.
Even though I am 100 percent for the television option, I can say without any condemnation toward any of ministers involved, that I would respect their decision to pull out and start another organization if they so choose to. Though I may disagree with their views on many issues, I do have the highest respect for them and really, at this point in time, I think it would actually be best if we split into two organizations. They (anti-TV people) would be much happier with their organization, and we (pro-TV) would be much happier with our organization. There’s too much animosity right now the way things are. Too much antagonism and in-fighting.
I think a division is desperately needed because it’s severely affecting the saints. All the fussing and fighting’s got many of them stressed out, battle-weary, and fearful, pushing them too close to the edge. They can’t take it anymore. It’s too much. Others are rabidly angry, condemning, acrimonious, and judgmental to the point of being scary. Some are so blinded by personal views that they accuse the other side of having a ‘false anointing’ from the Lord or “demonic spirits” that are angry at the anti-TV preachers.
I think separating will be the only way to end strife. I believe it would actually bring more peace.
