Reader's responses to The Big Question.

The Question: Dating Age Differences: What is too large an age difference between male and female? What is an unacceptable difference? Does it matter who is older: the man or the woman?

The Answer: “I can't put everyone into the same box, but for me ten years is too big of a difference! In fact, five years is pushing my limit. I'd rather date someone two years younger than six years older. But I think my opinions are all about me. I just don't want to feel old. I'm sure if I met the right person I'd reconsider my opinions. Maybe. If he was both mature and young at heart.”

The Answer: “If one of them is old enough to be the other one's parent, like, say, there is a 15 year age difference, then it is way too old. The older really needs to think about where he/she was when the younger was born--if they were old enough to start driving when the younger was born then, I'd say, 'No way!'”

The Answer: “Age is relative. I have seen many happy couples the same age and different ages, regardless of who is older. What matters is compatibility, grace, affection, and all those other things that make a good relationship. Age? Not so much a part of the game.”

The Answer: “If you're old enough to be the person's mother/father, there's too great of an age difference. I like younger men, though; you can train them up in the way they should go so when they're older, they will not depart.”

The Answer: “Ten years difference is the cut off for me. Everyone else may be a little different, but this is my personal opinion.”

The Answer: “If two people are marrying in the will of God, it doesn't matter about anything else. I am 11 months older than my husband.”

The Answer: “Dating leading to marriage--the male should be younger, according to medical studies. Males usually do not live as long as females. So to have a long life together (hopefully happy), the male should be around ten years younger. The decisions in life people make do not usually work out this way, though. Men are often not mature and who wants to have a family with someone immature? It depends on the people of course!”
