On
the Move Again (Because of My Husband)
April 21, 2008

Do you know
what it is like to follow your husband into strange territory like
Sarah did Abraham? Well, I do. My husband is in the
Air Force and has been for almost 19 years. In those 19 years,
we have moved a total of eight times. We have lived in seven
states and Central America.
It is a lonely
life sometimes. When we are in a not-so-good place where people
are not sure how to treat military, I especially feel it.
I sometimes just want to run home where I know people really love
me. This life is also a tiring one. I have been so tired
that I just want to lay down somewhere and sleep when we are in
the midst of a PCS (Permanent Change of Station).
Have you ever
been traveling and thought, “I can't feel my backside anymore?”
We went from California to Nebraska in four days, traveling up to
14 hours a day. By the time we got to Nebraska, I did not
want to get into another car--ever. We have had five blown
tires in a four day time period. Our first response was to
scream and say, “I quit,” but none of us did, for which my husband
is thankful.
The Underlying
Reason
I get tired
of moving all the time, but there is a reason I do it. I do
it not just because the Air Force is sending us to a new duty station.
I do it because I want to be obedient to the Lord. You see,
wives are told to love and obey our husbands in Scripture (I Peter
3:1). Now, I did not write the Bible, so I hope no one is
yelling at me. Even though we don't like what the Bible says
sometimes, we still have to obey it if we want the blessings of
God.
I am so thankful
I was not Abraham's wife. He was not even sure where he was
going. The Lord would show Abraham where the land of promise
would be. I can't imagine following your husband in a desert,
with no bathrooms, and you have to ride a stinky camel instead of
a car.
My husband has
never fought or tried to change our PCS orders. He believes
the Lord picked that place, so why fight it? It is my job
to follow him. It is my job to trust Bob where we are going
and believe that the Lord is going before us.
Avoiding
Destruction
So if you find
yourself married to a man who is in the military, perhaps an evangelist,
or just a traveler--trust him. If your husband is saved, anointed,
and a praying man, trust in that. God will never lead him
to a place where you will be destroyed. The Lord will go before
you and prepare everything for you. Sit back and enjoy your
new destination.
Rest in knowing
that God is not a backseat driver, but He's the one taking you to
where He sees greater thing in your life to come.
