Under His Wings

I was walking across our front yard this past weekend and came upon a bird standing in a landscaped area of the yard. The bird squawked louder and louder as I got closer. I was amazed that the bird was not flying away, and I thought it might be injured. I looked closer and noticed her wings were slightly opened and covering four eggs on the rocks.

What an awesome display of protection! This bird was literally standing her ground in order to protect her unborn babies (see attached photo). We witness a similar picture in these verses: “I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler” (Psalms 91:2-4).  The psalmist states that God is our refuge and we are secure under His wings.

What an awesome reminder for every born again child of God. We are living in a day of uncertainty. Gas prices are out of control, driving the prices of everything we buy. Groceries are getting too expensive, the stock market is unsteady, and the poor housing market has caused foreclosures to rise at an alarming rate. My friend, this is just the beginning of sorrows: “For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows” (Mark 13:8). As a woman goes into labor, her pains increase and her contractions come closer together; so will be the trouble we will see in this world as the end approaches.

The Price Rises

There have been a few people who have asked me recently, “What in the world are we going to do with everything becoming so expensive?” My reply has not changed, “We will trust in the Lord because we are safe under His wings!” Hebrews 13:6 reminds us that “…The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.” We need to get our eyes off the problems that the media floods the television and newspapers with and get our eyes fixed on Christ and His word. Our God is our provider, healer, protector, savior, helper, and we will trust in Him.

Jesus already told us that in the last days there would be trouble and that it would be just like the days of Noah. There would be wickedness, we would be hated for His name's sake, there would be false teachers and false prophets, men would be lovers of themselves, children would become disobedient to their parents, and men would not be able to endure sound doctrine.

We are told that we should not put our trust or confidence in man. How many times have we offended Jesus by allowing fear to grip our hearts instead of letting faith rise up in the one that we serve? Fear and doubt are worn on the devil's tool belt and he rejoices when he can get us to take our eyes off of Jesus and focus on the chaos.

America the Penniless?

In prayer several weeks ago, I heard the spirit of the Lord speak very plainly, “America will be broke.” We cannot expect our nation to be blessed when we have thrown Jesus out to the curb, we have taken His laws off our public buildings, and our schools tell our children they cannot pray and teach them that we do not have a divine creator, but instead we climbed out of a swamp and grew legs and arms. We abort millions of babies each year and there is corruption around every corner. We always reach for the security blanket of the flesh and comfort ourselves by saying, “It won't happen in my lifetime; things will continue as they always have.”

What is the key for us to stay calm in the midst of turmoil? The answer like always is found in the word of God. “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee (Isaiah 26:3). What an awesome promise God has given us! He has us covered and we need not to fret about the condition of the world. Yes, we should be compassionate and point others to Christ, but we have not been given the spirit of fear. Rejoice this day that God has you under His wings.
