Reader's responses to The Big Question.

June 16, 2008

The Question:  What one single issue is the most important to you in the upcoming election?

The Answer:  “The first thing that comes to mind is the economy because it affects us immediately, upfront. But the morality issues worry me quite a bit. I fear that the tenuous restraints that have held will completely come off and then where will we be? I guess we will be ready for the Lord's return.”

The Answer:  “I doubt that I will vote. The American system of elections is broken, and we, as Christians, have been raped by the Presidential candidates of the last 20-plus years. Bush's team uses 'curse words' to describe Christians and only wanted their vote.  They are not interested in our issues. They tried to gives us a couple of small 'victories.'  Will we continue to let them abuse our faith in them and let our examples confuse our youth?”

The Answer:  “You can't single out one issue, because they're all connected. Besides that, one-issue voters killed the only candidate who actually ever had a chance of winning the general election, Mitt Romney. All the evangelical voters who only think about a few issues like morality and abortion and so forth threw their weight behind a man who not only never stood a chance but also was a liberal by track record, Mike Huckabee. That robbed the actual conservatives of support.”

The Answer:  “Moral Standards!”

The Answer:  “Gasoline prices. There is not one single person in this nation that is not negatively affected by rising gas prices. Hope you weren't looking for abortion as my main issue again.”
