90&9: What is the “8” event at Youth Congress?

NB: It is the event to cr8 a network for Young Adults (18-30).  It is the only event designed specifically for the age demographic.

90&9: Why was it named “8”?

NB:  We chose the name because 8 is just a number, but if you put some letters to it action can take place: cre8, innov8, rel8. Many of our young adults are just a number, but when they will connect with other young adults they can become a verb. So 8 is a reminder,”Don't just be a number, be a verb.”

90&9: Now does this have something to do with the new Young Adult Ministry we've been hearing about?

NB: We understand that there has been for quite some time a gap in student ministry and adult programming.  If you are out of high school or not married sometimes there seems to be a void in ministry and we lose a large part of the 18-30 demographic.  We need to do something to bridge the gap--we need a hyphen.  Hyphen is the new Young Adult ministry that will seek to connect young adults to ministry, purpose, mission, and resources.  We want to do this by:

    1.  Raising awareness of young adult ministry.

    2.  Building connections with other UPCI Young Adults.

    3.  Equipping young adults and YA ministries with resources for . . .

    4.  Empowering young adults for ministry

We think it will take two years to launch this ministry.  Our goal is to not build a top-down structure, but to facilitate grass roots development as it grows across our country.

90&9: How are you involved with the Young Adult Ministry from GYD?

NB: I am the new North American Hyphen Coordinator.  But, I am not doing this alone.  I have recruited a National Team of Regional Directors, a Hyphen Administrator, and a Young Adult Liaison.  Their information will be on our website that will be unveiled at Youth Congress.

90&9: Tell us a little about what will be happening throughout 8?
NB:
Ryan Johns and Jonathan Dean will be playing live music.  For the first 500 there will be free food.  There will be food for purchase throughout the night.  There will be a comedy troupe, some prizes and activities, the unveiling of Hyphen, a ministry wall for Young Adult ideas, and the great 90&9 booth will be there to cover it.

90&9: A mega-event like Youth Congress offers endless socializing opportunities. What's the advantage attendees will receive by being there?
NB:  The advantages are that a Young Adult can enjoy great networking of other Young Adults, get first hand info about a new ministry that is going to impact our future, and really enjoy a venue that no other GYD event will resemble.

90&9: Will the Young Adult Ministries be sponsoring any other events in the near future?

NB:  This will be the sole event of Hyphen and CMI.  We want to gather as many names for connection as we can.
