Interviewed by ninetyandnine.com

This week Brent Coltharp and his wife Rachel will be speaking in the General Session of the UPCI's North American Youth Congress. We wanted to ask him a few questions about his Youth Congress experiences, as well as challenges facing young Christians today.

90&9: What's the first NAYC you attended and what do you remember from it?

BC: Rev. Terry Black preaching from the Song of Solomon.  Rev. Jerry Jones preaching about Heaven being a city that had both gates and walls.  A young person almost taking off Rev. Ron Tiller's head with a worldly CD that he was hurling toward the altar.

90&9: What do you see as the biggest challenge for Apostolic youth today?

BC: Authentic relationships (i.e. God, Church, family, friends, etc.) in a virtual world.

90&9: Please share the impact, if any, that social networking and Web 2.0 has made on your ministry or you personally.

BC: I have been resistant to get involved in social networking due to my fear of being unable to properly manage my time. However, I weekly visit blogs, have podcasts downloaded to my iphone in order to continually be stretched, do most of my business online (i.e. shopping, banking, etc.), track down information through a variety of searches, etc.

90&9: Please name a person who has mentored you and describe how and why they've impacted your life.

BC: Without a doubt, my parents, Bill Coltharp Sr. and Sharlene Coltharp.  They have demonstrated character and integrity throughout my entire life.  Whether in the pulpit or on vacation, their actions and words have remained in alignment.  They have supported me through academic pursuits, continually checking in on me, stretching me, maintaining accountability and encouraging me to continue to grow.  They created a growth climate.

My wife, Rachel, she has helped me to grow from being a caveman to becoming somewhat civilized.  She still has a lot of work left.

90&9: (Excluding God, the Bible and family), I can't live without…

BC: 17" Macbook Pro. - isn't this the same answer for everyone?

90&9: The last item I downloaded was…

BC: The message that I am preaching at NAYC.  Actually it was a boring bank statement.
