Life Church
(Mechanicsville, VA) Youth Pastor Akil Thompson will be speaking
at a split session of the UPCI's North
American Youth Congress. We wanted
to ask him a few questions about his Youth Congress experiences,
as well as challenges facing young Christians today.
90&9:
What's the first NAYC you attended and what do you remember from
it?
AT: 1997
Nashville, Tennesee. I met my wife. Yippee!!!!!
90&9:
What do you see as the biggest challenge for Apostolic youth today?
AT: Not
sure that there is one thing that JUMPS out at me versus several
things. One of the things that I am passionate about is ensuring
that our teenagers reject being spoon-fed. Especially since everything
about our culture today lures us to take the easy road. I
want to see them develop into purposed, influential, thoughtful,
and engaged Christians in their community.
90&9:
Please share the impact, if any, that social networking and Web
2.0 has made on your ministry or you personally.
AT: I
am now officially recovering from my addiction to social networking,
blogging, and twittering. No, seriously, I understand that it is
the norm for my FB friends and other social network connections
to know more about me than my neighbors who live down the street.
Scary, huh?!?
90&9:
Please name a person who has mentored you and describe how and why
they've impacted your life.
AT: Louise
Hickman. Spiritually speaking, I was raised on her knee. Her apostolic
roots run 80 years deep and the deeper the roots, the higher the
reach. I cherish my Apostolic heritage because of her.
90&9:
(Excluding God, the Bible and family), I can't live without…
AT: MBP
& BB (Mac Book Pro and Blackberry Storm)
