The Duct Tape Art Contest!

Attention novice, amateur, and professional duct tapers:
It gives me great pleasure to announce the first ever Duct Tape, Dixie, and Me Duct Tape Art Contest! That’s right, as of this moment, you have two weeks to submit your favorite work of sculpture, craft, or art of any medium made with duct tape for a chance to win and reign as duct tape master craftsperson. The contest is officially open NOW, so break out your favorite color(s) of duct tape and make it happen!

How To Enter:
E-mail one picture of your duct tape art submission to me at lblogger@ninetyandnine.com.

Deadline:
Midnight August 25, 2006. No late entries will be accepted.

Guidelines:
+ Art of any form/theme is welcome, but let’s keep it clean, kids.

+ The surface of the object must be covered in at least 50% duct tape. (This to head off those of you who would just slap a 2” strip of duct tape on Michelangelo’s David, snap a pic, and send it my way.)

+ Limit three entries per person.

+ A panel of 3 judges to be named later will select winners, and the contest results will be posted for all the world to enjoy.

Criteria for Judging:
50% - Technical merit for use of duct tape
50% - Creativity/original idea and artistic expression/theme

Prizes:
The Grand Prize Winner and the Runner-up will receive Ninetyandnine t-shirts, not to mention the honor of a special feature on the blog.

Let the games begin!

One Fish, Two Fish, Redfish, and Another Redfish

My Dad and I sneaked off for a few hours today to partake of a little Louisiana coastal saltwater fishing. It was special for us and a real hallmark of the unique Louisiana experience. Anyway, since I'm still revelling and you are my captive audience, allow me to share my catch. Too bad you can't all come over Sunday between services for the mammoth fish & shrimp fry feast....

Left to Right: sheephead, gaftop catfish, redfish, speckled trout

Harry Potter Author's U.S. Appearance

Book World Gossip
Stephen King, Salman Rushdie, and the mastermind behind Harry Potter all in one room? Yep. J.K. Rowling partcipated in a benefit reading which brought hordes of fans. In fact, it sounds as though she completely overshadowed Stephen King and John Irving, the other featured readers. Salman Rushdie was in the audience with his son and is apparently a big fan if his detailed plot theory question is any indication.

Flashback
A look back at the Harry Potter discussion featured on ninetyandnine five years ago. (Can you believe it's been that long since Pottermania started?)
