Beauty Advice
If you haven't caught it yet, there's a great piece on Ninetyandnine.com on Biblical Beauty Advice. I like it because it reminded me of a word I heard years ago at a Bill Gothard seminar in high school. Since I attended a Christian school, we got extra credit for attending this seminar and it was really life changing for me. The principles he taught were very conservative and rooted in the wisdom of the Word. One of the principles he taught that really stuck with me was if you want to be beautiful, just smile.
As teenagers, many people go through awkward stages, but mine was about 12 years long. I had glasses, retainers, was 5'6" and 105 lbs (a bean pole), and was smart, which out of everything was probably the biggest reason I was made fun of. At his seminar, Bill Gothard told a story about a woman who was so downcast and depressed and she came to him asking him why God had made her so unattractive. He told her to just start smiling and to see if that made a difference. He said some time later she came up to him and even he couldn't believe how much more attractive she was. Just changing her countenance and attitude had made a huge difference in her appearance.
Today's society glamourizes plastic surgery and pushes that you can be a better you with a little work. So, it's nice to be reminded that if you live a Godly life and work to be beautiful on the inside, your attitude and clean life will shine through and make you a more attractive person.

I, too, wore glasses, was 5'7 1/2" and 104 lbs (a bean pole), and was smart, so I can definitely identify with that awkward stage - now I just wish I were a bean pole again! :) However, those awkward teen years have helped me reach out to my Sunday School teens who are struggling with self image.
