On burning supper

I know this will surprise those who know me well, but I'm not the domestic goddess that I portray myself to be.

Therefore, when I cook, it's pretty much a given that something will go wrong. Recently, I managed to set off the smoke alarm not once, not twice, but three times in one week.

In.One.Week.

Don't get me wrong. I can cook for a specific event, or even have dinner for company. Brownies are my specialty. It's the every day basic, honey-it's-your-favorite-macaroni-and-cheese normal meals that trip me up.

I'm learning to make one part of supper that actually requires thought and preparation, and open cans/boxes for the rest. My definition of "from scratch" means if I had to use electricity to make it, it was "from scratch." Can I get an amen?

Tonight is perfection, at this point. BBQ ribs in the oven, coleslaw from the deli ready to serve, and Bush's baked beans in a can, ready and waiting to be heated. Frozen corn on the cob sounds good, too.

What's your kitchen hangup?

Liz, maybe if you had spent a little more time practicing cooking instead of piano---just kidding!

I still burn things and I've been cooking since just about the beginning of time. My problem is getting it all done approximately the same time. I hate having cold mash potatoes to serve with my meat!!! Love you!

Liz, they don't call it four-alarm chilli for nothing. No fear!
