Do NOT Put Your $ Where Your Mouth Is!
I work at a bank as a teller supervisor. It's a great job. I work with wonderful, positive co-workers, and the hours are great. What I didn't consider when I took this job was possible health issues. =)
Sick Dollars
I would say that being a teller behind a teller line is really actually one of the most likely work spaces to become terribly sick. On the "Job Most Likely to Contract a Chronic Illness" scale, a teller would probably be at the top along with a coal miner and a sewer cleaner!
You think I'm kidding but I was thinking about it the other day, every Friday I go home feeling like I'm coming down with some kind of bad cold, and it seems like people are always getting some kind of stomach flu or horrible sickness around me and it's no wonder. Money is filthy! It is wretchedly filthy! We are a pretty small branch compared to our other branches but we move a lot of money. It's located near tons of businesses, mainly gas stations and fast food restaurants, that bring in anywhere from $5,000 to $15,000 every day each.
Germ-Free Environment?
When I run a stack of 20's through the counter, it literally spits out a cloud of dust every time. I always hold my breath, and I would turn around but I have to watch the money very carefully just in case there is another random denomination in there. Its so disgusting when I stop and think what I could be breathing. Sometimes I know what I'm breathing. First you have the heavy smokers, it could be both cigarette or pot or some kinda nonsense like that. (please don't be offended, its the truth!) Then you have the people that didn't take a shower that week, who pull the money out of places I won't mention here, gag!!
I'm Warning You!
It's just not a pretty picture. So think twice next time please before you go to hold your money in your mouth for a moment to grab your food from the drive-thru lady! And no, I have never done that, but my friend did it one time and I then immediately gave her this "talk".
I'm sure everyone is aware of the germs on money and all, but just take extra care when you handle money next time, put on some anti-bacterial stuff at least temporarily if there is no where to wash your hands!! I don't know about you, but it's not something I thought about all time before I worked at the bank.
So for real. Don't let your money be the root of all your illnesses. Just go buy some 99 cent anti-bacterial stuff. Be prepared! You could have just handled Mr. "I never wash my hands"'s money!
That's all for now, and that's Surge with Virg signing off!
