To Be? Yes! (but not to be for less than $5,000)
Ok, so I'm getting married in less than 7 months!! So exciting right? Extremely!
But wait a minute...flowers, cake, candles, favors, food, invitations, not to mention the wedding dress, it's all getting soo expensive..and that's with the "cheap" stuff. I have in my mind a very elegant, simple wedding. But I cannot believe how fast this is all adding up to be. I haven't even really bought anything yet and I'm already in over my head. The budget is indeed supposed to be $5,000. We also gave ourselves an extra $500 to cover the last minute stuff that always comes up. But it just seems like so little.
So my proposal is: $5,000 is not going to be enough for the wedding I would love to have. If I get one thing I want, the other thing has to be forgotten, and if I want another thing then I must give up another.
So, instead of all this mess, elope!!!
Ha..gotchya. Nah, but what about just having a simple ceremony out on a lawn..or it could still be at my church, but no decorations, just the maid of honor and best man as attendants. Then, just family and close friends attend and we all just go to one of the family's big houses and have a big reception of sorts there.
That would save a ton of money and we could just have a fabulous honeymoon! (which is already booked by the way! =)
REACTIONS??
I just don't know how my family would react. I'm the baby and they are all really excited about me having this big ordeal which to tell you the truth, I don't really care either way. I just know that if I had the "big ordeal" I would want it a certain way..and we don't have that kind of money. At this point, I could still be swayed either way.

do what you want - at the end of the day you will be married and all the details will not matter. :) have a great time planning!
I have been the Mother of the Bride twice, the "adopted" Mother of the Groom once, and made several wedding dresses for over-stressed brides. Take my advice and do your wedding the least stressful way for you. IT IS YOUR DAY!! If you want to elope and then come home and do a big celebration party, do it! Everybody will be just be happy to celebrate with you.
It really is about what you want. Though I don't recommend eloping. My brother and sister-in-law had a small ceremony with only very immediate family. There weren't more than 30 of us there, and they loved it. They constantly try to persuade me that that is the best way.
Check out Cara Baker's book: Cheap Ways to Tie the Knot: How to Plan a Church Wedding for Less Than $5,000 - available through Amazon.com. (Cara is one of the editors for 90&9, by the way!)
Girl, I still need therapy for my wild and out of control wedding I had 8 years ago.
Have a pretty dress and a great photographer and that is all you need...oh, and the groom of course.
