More Don Miller

Yesterday proved to be an emotional day, but I'm proud of the way I handled everything. I think for the first time in my life I was able to put my trust in God fully and that helped keep it all in perspective. I should try it more often!

I spent most of yesterday afternoon reading Don Miller's Searching For God Knows What, and it opened my eyes to some pretty cool things. (For those of who you've read the book, I know you want mind a review.)

Miller talks a great length about Adam and Eve and their fall, but my biggest interest was when he talked about Adam's loneliness. I've heard the story about the creation of Eve numerous times, but I never paid attention to this tiny detail that Miller offers. Adam was lonely, and God knew it. However instead of miraculously producing Eve like I had always thought, God sends Adam out to name all the animals. That's a job that would take a LONG time. Years, maybe even a hundred years. And all that time, Adam was lonely, and God knew it.

When Adam finally finished his great task, it was only then that God made Eve. For years Adam had been alone searching for someone, something to fill that void, but God had a work that had to be accomplished first. God knew what Adam was capable of completing, and then he finally rewarded him with his hearts desire. And after spending all those years searching for her, Adam was able to appreciate Eve for all that she was.

I can parallel that story to my life, as I'm sure you can to yours. There are things in our lives that we want, and God knows those needs. Yet, God has a work for us to do. He has a plan and He knows what we're capable of accomplishing. When we've completed His task, and proved ourselves faithful, God will reward us. And when He does, the prize will be much greater than we could imagine, and we will treasure it the more.
