Eric: Thursday
It is hot. I agree with kdc that attendance seems to be holding with 2005 and maybe even higher.
Split Session 1Today I went to the youth workers session by Terry Shock and Tim Rutledge. They talked about vision, communication, confidentiality as the keys to successful work with young people (I still am not used to saying “students” instead of “youth.” (Will 2009 be known as North American Student Congress?). They spoke from experience and it was well received. They explained the importance of not getting backed into a corner of promising a young person (student) that you will not tell anyone what they tell you.
The second session was for young adults by Norman Paslay. Of course, he was funny, and he passed out bookmarks with the session notes on them. This was a great idea since many people don’t have their notebooks and don’t take notes. He spoke from his experience as a parent, and a pastor about how young adults can use these years effectively.
Both of these sessions were filled to capacity or beyond. Two years ago, the young adults session was almost empty so it was good to see it full.
I’ve been catching up with a lot of friends and it is great to see people who I don’t get to keep in regular touch with.
Random Basketball Note
Youth Congress is being held at the Charlotte Bobcats basketball arena. Their star forward, former Gonzaga standout Adam Morrison, was seen practicing in the practice court behind the sports restaurant. This isn't a great picture but there was a curtain in the way. You can almost see his trademark shaggy hair.
