Youth Congress: Belts & Shoes Combos - kdc

So my dear wife wasn’t able to make NAYC this year, but wanted me to take the usual female fashion shots she made famous during NAYC 2005. The problem is . . . well, ya know, I just don’t keep up with that stuff.

After getting clued in by a couple accommodating acquaintances - big colorful belts with matching shoes (and purses and headpieces . . .), I began finding fashion examples in the hallways outside the booth I’m manning and snapping their pix, often to the point of weaving through heavy crowds just to snap my subject.

Finally, a dear friend said, “Ya know Kent, it probably doesn’t look so good you chasing young girls around with a camera and snapping pictures of them.” Hmmm. Good point.

Happily, I referenced our zine and all were more than accommodating.

So, thanks to the lovely Apostolic ladies who agreed to share their exquisite fashion sense with the wider web world. They are from (in no particular order) Missouri, Kentucky, Arizona, Ohio, Oklahoma, and probably a state or 2 I can no longer remember.

I don't know... I don't get the fashion thing. In Vermont, we just dress conservative and modest, without the flair... it's not supposed to be about being noticed for your flashy outfit. It's about being noticed for your Godly modest character. Ick... we just don't dress like that up here. I don't find it attractive at all. Keeping up with fashion is like keeping up with the Joneses, IMHO.

As a girl who admits to being a high-heel slave, this is all I have to say: Those lovely ladies are smiling now, but I wonder how much of a smile will be left on their faces after they've been walking around for hours in those bad boys.

I just want to say a Big AMEN to Michelle.
Time to get back to dressing modestly ladies.Pretty soon our OneGodApostolilc churc's wont have any standards left.21 yrs ago we dressed modest,21 yrs ago our youth did NOT go to the prom, whats next, night club?

Thank the Lord God for the two of you who stand for modesty!!

I have been soooooo disappointed by the things I've heard about NAYC that deal with dress, modesty, etc!

I pray the blessings of the Lord upon those who strive to be modest and godly!!

I agree 100% with Michelle and I'm not even UPC (anymore.) Looking at the ornate hairdo's, tight clothes and hooker shoes, I can't help but shake my head. So much for shamefacedness, modesty and not wearing costly apparel. Let me say, adornment of the body in wild colors is no different than gaudy makeup or necklaces about the neck. Tacky.

Me-OW! May the self-righteous of the Lord say so! Teenagers liking to dress up is Human Nature 101.

If you had attended the services and watched their behavior you'd be less judgmental. They're good kids. Just because you don't understand them doesn't mean they're compromising.

I wonder if people are going to be making comments like that when the upc drifts so far that the women openly wear pants, makeup and have cut hair? Oh if you only seen how how sincere their behavior is in service you'd be less judgemental. Just because someone is sincere during a church service does not give them a pass to skip out on modesty. People can be sincerely wrong. Lord help us

It is a very sad day, when one of the largest oneness organizations in the world begins to go the way of the world. Pentecostal Idol? Interviews with a television personality? Our forefathers would roll over in their graves. Those who have so greatly blazed trails would have not so tolerated such things. Not because they are dinosaurs or old fashioned, but because they believe so strongly this great truth, and refused to compromise with the world. There is not a single difference between what I have seen on this site, and what the mainstream "christian" charismatics believe and push. I can see down the years of this organization and see history repeating itself. I am so glad that there are still those out there that believe this Apostolic truth, and understand that it is that which the world truly needs. We don't need to be more like THEM, we need to be more like HIM. I pray for those who have a true heart to serve him, that they do not get caught in the snare of compromise. This world needs true biblical Apostolic Revival, that will not come from watering down, and conforming to this world.

Wow! Some of you are so stuck up and self-righteous I hope you never come to my youth group. I'm a conservative UPC minister and assistant pastor - but you would never know that by looking at most of my youth group, cause they're all new - sinners who've been saved by the grace of God. New Christians who have yet to mature to a place where they're ready to hear "holiness standards." If everyone in your church looks as "perfect" as you - you have a problem...you're stagnant and without growth!

The purpose behind our holiness standards has become so misconstrued by many on this board. Our external appearance is to reflect an inward relationship and experience with God - one that comes only with maturity. If people do not have that inward relationship than we cannot expect them to have a strong external witness.

Finally, leave other churches new converts and youth groups alone! Quit judging another person's lifestyle when you know nothing about them. None of us are perfect, we're all flawed, we all have our weaknesses. Some internal, some external. But instead of pointing fingers I would rather have Paul's outlook on life:

Phil 3:12-13
Not that I have already attained , or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.
NKJV

God bless
Adam

Thank you Bro Adam! Spoken like a true Christian!

Wow, I forwarded this blog on to several in my church because one of the girls is our pastor's daugther. Until I got a response from our Pastor's wife, I didn't realize all the comments below. I'd like to say I'm surprised at all the comments that basically say the girls in the pictures aren't living a Godly modest life by wearing clothes that place them in the 21st centruy....but I shouldn't really be shocked. The girl that I know in these photos is one of the most beautiful, modest, on-fire for God young person that I know. Let's not forget that we are supposed to be living IN the world, just not of it. You can't win people who live IN the world if you don't even live there yourself.

i am a young apostolic girl and honestly i am shocked at how much theses "christians" are judging other youth just like me. Unless your name is jesus is it really up to whoever boy or girl to judge. Yikes! i know who would cast the first stone...my fellow "brothers and sisters in the lord" over pink shoes! God bless all imperfections that have made us man and woman and everyone else who feels they are so right with god that they feel they can judge others. LOVE TO ALL! your fellow sister in the lord. Hallelujah! thanks be to God!

I am a 22 year old pentecostal apostolic myself and I think the colors that our youth is not a big issue that we should be worrying about right now. As a pentecostal conservative, the massive problem that I am seeing in pentecostal churches today is that our women (young and old) are now wearing their skirts just below the knee, if that. That is the problem; it is like playing with fire. If our churches continue to accept "borderline skirts", eventually it will be okay to wear the skirts just above the knee. To get a male's opinion, I asked my brother who is 25 and his response was that when men see a woman's bare legs, it causes them to think unpure thoughts. Church, we really need to ask ourselves if we are causing others to lust after our appearance. If we are, we may want to change what we wear and try to keep it holy and modest. God bless!
