Thursday-Broke in the Holiday Season

So lets talk about the impeccable timing in my life, and how I don’t appreciate the bad luck in Christmas season! So as a few of you know, my car broke down. What a joy. (Not) So, as luck would have it, I fell in love with my car, a Silver Chrysler Sebring Convertible, black top, black leather interior. For the not so car buff’s out there, Chrysler is lets say, not so reputable when it comes to cars. Okay lets say 2 of 2 the Chrysler’s I’ve owned have turned out to be not the greatest purchases.

My Car..Died

I digress. So, one glorious morning I press the pedal and my car basically has no power, it just kind of rolls forward. Panic in the disco. So I, determined, drove it (and made it) back to my house and parked it, I would worry about it later. So I finally get it towed to the shop for them to take a look at. Did I mention that to tow a vehicle is highway robbery? I should have pushed the car myself. I paid almost $100 to have it towed 20 minutes to Nashville. Give me a break. Anyway, they take a look at it and I get the grim diagnosis. I have a broken piston ring and my motor is blowing oil out of the exhaust manifold. Sounds nasty and it is. I would have to replace the motor or sell it as is. They told me a used motor would be around $2,000 (if they could find one) and the labor would be around a thousand. So obviously I don’t have money growing on trees, so I decided to be grateful that I could get some money out of the car (the garage owner offered me $1,000) and move on with my life.

Trying to be Successful

So I have this motto of not having a car payment, anyone with me on that? I have worked hard, graduated from school and have tried to maintain nice cars, while not having a car payment. So far I have done a pretty good job. I had bought this nice car, completely paid off, and then the devil came a knocking. Too bad God is on my side, right?

Blessings

So I decided I wasn’t going to just give my car away and decided to dig around myself. Long story short (well sort of short), I found a used motor for $750 and worked out a good price for the labor. So what was going to be about a $3,000 plus job has turned into about $1,750.
And you know what? I’m going to count it as a blessing. I DO have a lot to be thankful for. I could have broken down on the Interstate, while driving, could have had a horrible accident (dramatic I know); instead I made it home. I could have paid an astronomical amount for the repairs; instead I’m paying a little over half. I could have been stranded without a car; instead my parents let me borrow their spare vehicle. I could see the glass as half empty easily. Sure, this time of year is not ideal for such a large purchase but you know what? I only see it as half full. Things are going to look up tomorrow I just know it!

I totally feel you on this one...I recently ruined the second motor in my car (yes, I'm really rough on cars...oil? What's that?). And as a college student working just to pay the school bill, I have yet to come up with the funds to purchase a replacement vehicle of any sort ($80 doesn't buy much more than a dye-cast replica...). But God is good, I must admit--I have yet to find myself in a position where I have no way to get around.
And I'm still believing for my insane car miracle--God? Yoohoo...God?
