Class Clowns or Dunces?
I pulled into the parking lot of the school, but all the school buses were there. I did a double take at my watch. I did stop by Wal-mart on my way to school, but there was no way I was that late to school! Why were all the buses there instead of out on routes? As I pulled a little closer I found out why. Every bus had at least 1 flat tire!
Some genius students sat down and thought, "What can I do to totally dismantle the school for a few hours?" These students didn't slice the tires. No, that would have been too easy. Instead, the students pulled out the little tube that you use to put air in the tire. Not only did they get all the buses on campus but also the maintenance trucks and the driver's ed car. Some buses are not left on campus but at another location, so after doing double and triple routes, all of the students had arrived by 2nd period.
I had to give a very hearty laugh. Although it was a very costly prank, it was genius. And I thought all those students were stupid!
As if the morning wasn't hectic enough, I had to be on the disciplinary hearing for the boy who brought the gun to school. He's been in the detention center (DC) since the incident, and do you know the Sheriff parked on the side of the school and marched the child through the hallway in his yellow jump suit and chains! Some people thought it was wrong, and it may have been. I was glad some of the other students got to see it; hopefully they won't be as dumb.
According to the boy, someone from another school gave him the gun and he forgot it was in his backpack. That night he came on campus to try and sneak into the Powderpuff football game. He went through his backpack and saw the gun was still in there, so instead of going off campus, he stashed it behind the buses. It sounds like a legitimate story, but some of his details don't add up. Either way, he violated not only a school board law or a state law but a federal law. Even if we wanted to let him go, our hands were tied. We gave him a year expulsion, and if he wishes to be reinstated after the year, he has to go before the school board. He's still in DC; I'm not sure for how long. The rumor is he will be tried as an adult in the actual court case...

Stealing Apples
Stu stole my post for today, so I'm sharing something so that you can get to know me a little better.
I'm sure many of you have already gotten this email. You pick 1 fruit that you would eat if you were given the choice. The fruit that you choose represents your type of personality. I am an Apple; what are you??
1. Orange
2. Apple
3. Banana
4. Coconut
5. Pineapple
6. Papaya
7. Mango
8. Cherry
9. Black Grapes
10. Peach
11. Custard Apple
12. Pear
ORANGE - If orange is your favorite fruit, it speaks of a person who has enduring patience and willpower. You like to do things slowly, but very thoroughly and are completely undaunted by hard work. You tend to be shy, but are reliable and trustworthy friend. You have an aesthetic bent of mind. You select your partner with care and you love with all your heart, and not in for just a fling. You avoid conflict at all costs
APPLE - If apple is your favorite fruit, you are an extravagant, impulsive and outspoken person, often with a bit of a temper. While you may not be the best organizer yourself, you make a good team leader and are good at taking things forward. You can take quick action in most situations. You enjoy travel immensely. You ooze with charm when you are with your partner. You have an enthusiasm for life, unmatched by most.
BANANA - You are a softy! Loving, gentle, warm and sympathetic by nature is the banana lover. You often lack in self-confidence and are quite timid by nature! People often take advantage of your sweet temperedness, and sheer vulnerability to a situation. You adore your partner in every which way, both for their mental and physical beauty! Because of the way you are, your relationship is always very much in harmony!
COCONUT - The coconut lover is a serious, very thoughtful and contemplative person. Though you enjoy socializing, you are particular about the company you keep. You tend to be stubborn but not necessarily foolhardy. Shrewd, quick-witted and alert, you ensure that you are right on top of any given scenario, especially at work. You need a partner with brains, and while passion is important it certainly isn't everything for you.
PINEAPPLE - You are quick to decide and even quicker to act. You are brave in asking career changes, if that is what is to your advantage. You have exceptional organizing abilities and are undaunted by the size of the task at hand. You tend to be self reliant, sincere and honest in your dealings with others. Though you are not given to making friends very quickly, but once you do, it is for life. Your partner is often impressed with your sterling qualities but disappointed in your ability to show affection.
PAPAYA - You are truly fearless and take much that happens in life in your stride. You give considerable thought to things you do. You have a sense of humor that, along with your generous nature, keeps you in most people's good books. You are a go-getter in your professional life, and have a knack for being in the right place at the right time. You enjoy meeting new people and seeing new sights whenever you can. Your sense of humor is what attracts members of the opposite sex to you more than anything else. It is simply charming!
MANGO - A mango lover is a personality to reckoned with; quite often, you are a person who has quite fixed ideas, and influencing you is not an easy task. You tend to be an extremist with strong likes and dislikes, and at times even like to control a situation. You enjoy getting involved in something that presents mental challenge. Strong as you may be, you are like a kitten when you are with your partner. You accommodate the love of your life, and make up for all the strong will elsewhere!
CHERRY - If cherry is your favorite fruit, life isn't always as sweet for you. You often face ups and downs, particularly professionally, and find that you make small sums of $$$, instead of a lump sum. You have a fertile imagination and are often involved in creative pursuits. You are a very sincere and loyal partner, but find that expressing your feelings is not very easy. Your home is your haven, and you love nothing more than being surrounded by close family and your beloved partner.
BLACK GRAPES - You are a polite person in general, but do have quick flare-ups of temper that cool down just as quickly. You enjoy beauty in all forms, including beautiful people. You are very popular because of your warm, gregarious nature. You have a zest for life; you enjoy everything you do, right from the way you dress, to your style and your day-to-day life.Your partner must share your zeal and zing for life to enjoy all you have to offer!
PEACH - Like a peach, you enjoy the juice of life and all its lush ripeness! You are the friendly sort, and are quite frank and outspoken, which adds to your charm. You are quick to forgive and forget; and value your friendships highly. You have an independent and ambitious streak in you that make you a real go-getter. You are the ideal lover, fiery and passionate but sincere and faithful in love. You don't, however, like to display all that passion in public.
CUSTARD APPLE - You are a modest and conservative person who can be quite sensitive at times . You tend to be thoughtful and contemplative, and therefore are rarely rash in doing things. You are quite ambitious and are good at anything that requires much detailing or working with numbers. You are quick at finding fault with others. While looking for a partner, you value a person's intellect far above their looks or good old passion. You are quite shy and not very comfortable demonstrating affection.
PEAR - If you put your mind to something you can do it successfully, but by and large you tend to be fickle and have trouble completing a task with the enthusiasm you started it with. You need to know the results of your efforts almost immediately. You enjoy mental stimulation and love to get into a good discussion! You tend to be a restless and high-strung person, and are easily excited. Being happy doesn't mean everything's perfect! It means you've decided to see beyond the imperfections!

Prison Break!
The service at the prison went well last night, but you know nothing would be complete without a little drama...
As previously mentioned, it rained yesterday. So in the middle of the preaching, the electricity went out. We were in a room with 2 windows which were covered by bars, and it was night time. It was pitch black in that room. Several of the girls beside me instantly began praying. I guess they thought the prisoners were going to attack us. I was waiting for the prisoners to run towards the door shouting"Free at last, free at last! Thank God Almighty, I'm free at last!" About 30 seconds later the lights came back on, and we continued with service, but some of those prisoners looked a wee bit disappointed. :)
But to be serious for a moment, the service was great. This is the second time I have been to this prison, and it was awesome to see familiar faces from the previous service. In prison, it is rare to see the men show emotion, so you very rarely have a shout 'em up or weepy service. However several men did come to the make-shift altar with tears in their eyes.
God's grace amazes me. The people that we would normally shun or think unworthy of God's love is exactly the ones he wants to go to. I stood and wept over the souls in that service. I wondered at what point in their life did they stray? When did they start making bad decisions that landed them in jail? Thank God that even though we are all born into sin, He has paid the price for our salvation! Even in earthly bondage, we can be free!

A little Death, Prison, and Rain....
Death
As I'm sure most of you already know, Jerry Falwell passed away this afternoon. Unfortunately, I can't say that I feel much remorse over his death. I was not a huge fan of his ideas and politics. He put his foot in his mouth more than I care to remember.
Prison
I am going to a local prison tonight to minister with my church. We have an active Prison ministry both here in Mississippi and in Arkansas. Since my town is located right on the Mississippi River, we have a large number of members that live in Arkansas, and therefore our ministry spreads to that state often. Tonight we are traveling to Dermott, Arkansas to have a complete service.
A lot of people are scared of the prison ministry, but I really enjoy going. I know that most of the inmates deserve their punishment, but they also deserve salvation. Our Christian duty is to take the gospel to the bound, the poor, the brokenhearted. You can't get much more bound, poor, or brokenhearted than the people in prison. I feel the most like Christ when I'm ministering to people like that.
Rain
It finally rained today! We had a great thunderstorm at school! I love rainy weather, and with it being so hot, I know the farmers needed it. It's only May and temperatures have already begun reaching the 90's. I can only imagine what the temperatures will be in July and August! You haven't felt humid heat until you've spent a summer in the Mississippi Delta! Guess we'll blame it all on Global Warming!
**Today's Southern Term**
Cut Off [kuht off]. -- verb. When referring to a light switch, it means to turn off.
Who cut off the lights? No one, the electricity went out because of the storm.

Stories from the World Traveler
In case you haven't read, I recently took a wonderful trip to Italy! Ok, I know, everyone's heard, but today, I'm giving behind the scenes info! So lean in because I only share gossip once!
The Scoop
I had a huge admirer while on the trip! (After all it was a singles trip.) However, my admirer was much older and had a wife! **GASP** My Biggest Fan, as I will call him, had me and my group of friends laughing most of the trip.
I became acquainted with My Biggest Fan very early in the trip because of my lost luggage. He kept good tabs on me, checking occasionally to hear if any news had arrived concerning my luggage. He knew my pastor, been through my hometown when he was younger, and was even offered a scholarship to the same college I attended. Several times throughout the trip, we engaged in conversations about my job, etc.
The Proposal
While we are touring St. Peter's Basilica, My Biggest Fan asks me if I've found anyone interesting on the trip so far, or if I had an interest at home. I quickly told him no, there was no one, to which he responds, "I want you to meet my son!" After that, I got the 411 on his son, including, height, GPA, and life ambitions. I must admit, My Biggest Fan made a good sales pitch. From there on out, my friends picked up on every small thing My Biggest Fan would do. To them, he had already pegged me as his daughter-in-law.
Adding to the Story
On the trip, numerous people got sick, some even were bed ridden. I had picked up a slight cough like several others on the trip. While at one of our stops at a small convenient type store, My Biggest Fan called out to me across the store. When I got to him, he said he was concerned about my cough and went in search of a cough drop, as if I was the only one coughing!
On another day in Rome, it turned out to be rather cool. Most of us had not dressed accordingly as the previous day had been extremely nice. Several of us girls were shivering, but My Biggest Fan offered me his fleece pullover. When he took off his fleece, he only had a short sleeved shirt on underneath. I begged him to keep it, but he would not take no for an answer! So while everyone else was freezing, I was all bundled up!
My friends and I got a great kick out of My Biggest Fan. I did enjoy being spoiled! I'm not sure what his son looks like, as I never got to see a picture. But if he could treat me as good as his dad did, I may have just found the one!

A Blog for Mama
I am not a mother, but sometimes I feel like one. Being a teacher and a youth leader often requires motherly aspects, that I'm not too practiced in. Thankfully I've had the influence of a great mother to help me through the hard times.
What's better is that I've not only had one mother, but numerous motherly influences in my life that have helped shape and mold me throughout the years. I know that I would not be who I am today without these ladies in my life. Yet, my life is not great enough to show how wonderful they are.
Yesterday I went to my great aunt's birthday reception. We were celebrating her 90th birthday. What an awesome woman she is! She isn't on any medication, lives by herself, and gets around on her own without the assistance of a walker or cane. I was impressed with her abilities at such an old age. I thought about all the lives she touched, all the people she's known and loved over her 90 years. People had come to celebrate this woman's live, her achievements, and they all had been changed by her in some way.
I hope that I can be a lady like my aunt. I hope I can be a lady like my mom. Even though they make mistakes, they persevere. They love their families unconditionally. They have trained their children in God's paths. Blessed is the Woman who fears the Lord!
Happy Mother's Day to all the Mothers and future mothers!
