Football/Holiday Happenings/ Rambling
So today is Friday and what a week it’s been. I’ve had fun blogging; it has seemed to fly by. Sorry for not posting all of the blogs on the appropriate days. Okay, I didn’t post any, except todays, on the right day, but who cares? I got them in didn’t I? Ha Thanks for reading and listening to my ramblings. I know that I ramble lots. BTW I never told you about Wednesday night. I ended up going to youth choir and the Sunday School class party. Everything else worked itself out. I love how that happens. Did I mention I love the Holiday season? I think I’ve mentioned that in every blog.
My FAVorite time!
This truly IS my favorite time of the year!! It’s football, fall, and the Holiday Season all wrapped up in one glorious time! Okay, that’s about as energetic as I can get. Do any of you have any hopes for the Super bowl? I haven’t had the opportunity to “see” as many games this year as I would have hoped, but I have SEC. I know EVERYone out there is a huge SEC fan. How about those Tigers? I hate the LSU Tigers, but I’m going to pull for them because they’re one of our own. I also think that the Buckeyes have surely met their match. Maybe I can do a write-up about the game? We shall see.
Farewell!
Well, if today hasn’t been rambling, then I don’t know what is! Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Thanks for reading..to both of you! Ha ha

Thursday-Broke in the Holiday Season
So lets talk about the impeccable timing in my life, and how I don’t appreciate the bad luck in Christmas season! So as a few of you know, my car broke down. What a joy. (Not) So, as luck would have it, I fell in love with my car, a Silver Chrysler Sebring Convertible, black top, black leather interior. For the not so car buff’s out there, Chrysler is lets say, not so reputable when it comes to cars. Okay lets say 2 of 2 the Chrysler’s I’ve owned have turned out to be not the greatest purchases.
My Car..Died
I digress. So, one glorious morning I press the pedal and my car basically has no power, it just kind of rolls forward. Panic in the disco. So I, determined, drove it (and made it) back to my house and parked it, I would worry about it later. So I finally get it towed to the shop for them to take a look at. Did I mention that to tow a vehicle is highway robbery? I should have pushed the car myself. I paid almost $100 to have it towed 20 minutes to Nashville. Give me a break. Anyway, they take a look at it and I get the grim diagnosis. I have a broken piston ring and my motor is blowing oil out of the exhaust manifold. Sounds nasty and it is. I would have to replace the motor or sell it as is. They told me a used motor would be around $2,000 (if they could find one) and the labor would be around a thousand. So obviously I don’t have money growing on trees, so I decided to be grateful that I could get some money out of the car (the garage owner offered me $1,000) and move on with my life.
Trying to be Successful
So I have this motto of not having a car payment, anyone with me on that? I have worked hard, graduated from school and have tried to maintain nice cars, while not having a car payment. So far I have done a pretty good job. I had bought this nice car, completely paid off, and then the devil came a knocking. Too bad God is on my side, right?
Blessings
So I decided I wasn’t going to just give my car away and decided to dig around myself. Long story short (well sort of short), I found a used motor for $750 and worked out a good price for the labor. So what was going to be about a $3,000 plus job has turned into about $1,750.
And you know what? I’m going to count it as a blessing. I DO have a lot to be thankful for. I could have broken down on the Interstate, while driving, could have had a horrible accident (dramatic I know); instead I made it home. I could have paid an astronomical amount for the repairs; instead I’m paying a little over half. I could have been stranded without a car; instead my parents let me borrow their spare vehicle. I could see the glass as half empty easily. Sure, this time of year is not ideal for such a large purchase but you know what? I only see it as half full. Things are going to look up tomorrow I just know it!

Wednesday-Fun/Hectic/Amazing Holiday Season
Well Good morning,
So you know life is crazy when you completely forget your “blogging’ responsibilities. How irresponsible! Ha Anyway, Things are good my way. I’ve just had one of those crazy weeks, one that you DON’T want to have while in the Christmas season. Catch what I’m throwing? Ha Anyway, so Wednesday night is one of those crazy nights that occur during the Holiday season. Check out my schedule for the evening:
5:15 pm Meet Alicia for coffee
6:15 pm Youth Choir Practice
7:15 pm Meet Sunday School Class for Christmas Party
7:00 pm Praise Singers practice to sing for Service tonight
7:30 pm Alto/Soprano Practice during service for Christmas Musical
8:30 pm Band practice for Christmas Musical
Yeah Right. So as we all know there is only ONE omnipresent individual, and I’m not the one!! :) Therefore, I will be letting one of my responsibilities down. I love the season, but, good grief, why is it so busy? And I can’t even begin to go there about Christmas shopping. Tune in tomorrow to see what I actually made it too!

Christmas Party Recovery Mode (Tuesday's blog)
Tuesday Morning Blues
I hope you are well today. So I am trying to recover from this Christmas party that I helped co-host in downtown Nashville last night. I sing in this small singing group. The members are spread across West Tennessee. Well we had our Christmas party in Nashville this year at Phillip Hampton’s condo. Did I mention his pad is posh? It’s safe to say it’s by far the nicest place you might venture this holiday season.
Work/Decor
Can I just say that parties seem fun but the more fun it is, the HARDER the work? Well I said it anyway. Good grief. And you know what else is crazy? I am setting everything up with the help from my mom (thanks mom) and other volunteers (thanks Arlen and Sis. Helen Becton) and people started getting there. I mean seriously. Since WHEN did ‘costals (pentecostals for the “new” readers) start arriving places on time, and early for that matter? Ha I realize that’s a gross generalization, but seriously. So I was running around trying to get everything put together.

Monday, A New, Day, Month, Writer, Thought..
It Could Only Happen to Me
So, Merry Christmas to you and yours! It’s good to be back in the blogging world, if only for this week. So check this out, the other day I was standing at our receptionist’s desk, and two men come in and say call the police department, a man just had a bicycle accident. Okay for real. I just looked at them, and asked, “a motorcycle accident?” “No, an accident on his bicycle in our company driveway, he’s not responding, so call the police department.” I just couldn’t believe it, but no time to “think”. So I look up the police department number (because in Nashville if its not life threatening you have to call a different number than 911) about a quarter of a mile down the road and call them. “Hi, I’m Chauntay, down the road, a man had an accident on his bicycle in our driveway.” “Excuse me, Ma’am?” “A man has had an accident, he is unconscious, oh wait, they say he’s moving now, there’s blood everywhere, there’s a big gash on his head”. “Ma’am where are you located?” “I am at 659, right down the street, across from Bell Ford.” “I’m sorry Ma’am you are out of our city limits. You need to hang up and call Metro 911”. I was stunned. For all he knew this man could have been run over and he says HANG UP AND CALL 911? Are you kidding me? I said, “Sir, do you know where I’m at? I can SEE you from my front porch of the company. We’re just down the hill.” “Ma’am, our city limits stop at the cemetery (which is our next door neighbor). Sorry.”
Disbelief
I’m completely stunned. So I thank him, hang up and call 911 Emergency. A lady answers. Here we go again. “Ma’am, a man has had an bicycle accident in our driveway.” Silence. “Is he breathing? I have to ask that.” “Yes, he just started moving. There’s lots of blood though.” And then I heard sirens (pronounced sirenes here in the South, ha). Thank God. I thanked the operator and assume that someone else beat me to the call. I then ran to the door to see, for the first time, exactly what had happened. I see a BMW pulled in our driveway and two police cars, a policeman interrogating a lady, asking if she hit him and her pleading innocence and good Samaritan! ((Side note: I think one day people just won’t stop and help anymore because it’s really not worth the hassle, or blame)) Then I hear the phone ringing (the receptionist is still MIA), I answer it and its Metro 911 Emergencies. The lady says, “Ma’am, I’ve checked our system and we don’t have a report for that accident. Could you go outside and see what police department is there?” I can’t believe it, but sure. “Sure, I’d love to. Hold on a second.” So I run to the “scene”.
The Moment of Truth
A man is lying there, looking of homeless descent. His hair is unkempt, he was wearing an older coat, larger than life, and he’s on a rickety old blue bicycle that looks like it crawled out of the seventies. He’s got a pool of blood around him and he looks completely disoriented. I immediately felt sorry for him. Bless his heart. I ran and asked the officer where he’s from; he looked at me oddly, and said “Berry Hill”. “Okay, thanks.” Berry Hill; the original police department I had called. I guess they realized they had a lawsuit on their hands. Their operator might be checking into unemployment as we speak, for the love. Anyway, I run back in and tell the 911 operator the glad tidings and hang up (thankful that SOME one was doing their job that day).
Bitterness?
I go outside to take another look, and say a prayer. But wait, what do I see? A bottle of alcohol lying on the ground. I found out later it was a pint of Jack Daniels. I never drank, so I have no idea, but after I showed them w/ my hands the width/length of the bottle and the color, everyone knew exactly what it was. Sad. I digress. Of course, it all made sense. Why else would someone crash on the sidewalk in the middle of the day, traffic, and in a driveway? He was drunk, plain and simple. A feeling of disappointment swept over me. I just stood there and stared at the mania. There were two police cars, a fire truck, and an ambulance, totaling 7 plus individuals, all for a man “riding drunk”. And to make matters worse, I’m not entirely sure that they didn’t take him in.
Soul Searching
I guess it just hit home this holiday season. We are all so fortunate to have homes, bicycles from this century, and even common sense. At what point do you lose all, or any of this? Simple answer. There is no point. You don’t wake up and become homeless, these things are gradual. You don’t get where you are in life, over night.
So my Christmas Wish? Take a second this season. Have a heart, be a little more lenient. Give some change to the person in front of you in line that’s a dollar short. Say a prayer when you see an ambulance flying by, pray for those on the cold mornings without a coat, volunteer at the homeless shelter. After all, “I am not what I should be. I am not what I will be but praise the Lord I am not what I was.” We all grow daily; why don’t you help someone along?
