More From Borat

Posted by: Denelle

Someone emailed me some screen caps from Borat's appearance on the Today Show and I thought you might like to see them. I also I went and found the link for the clip so you can see what's going on. The clip of what you see below is at the very beginning of the Borat interview with Matt Lauer (edited because the direct link isn't working so use this link and then click on the direct link under the interview with the new Bond girl/Latest in Today's Entertainment) .

Scenes like this one (and the one in the antique store) were filmed in one take and with those participating (minus Borat and the videographer) entirely unaware. However, it is my understanding that in order for the final elements to make it into the movie those involved had to give their consent.

See the entire clip on YouTube here. (sorry, the YouTube link has been removed at the request of the movie studio because it was used without permission)

I understand that this is 1. comedy and 2. that this guy pokes fun at . . . well, everyone but I can't help but feel like the whole thing with attending a service and "getting the Holy Ghost" seems to be walking the dangerously thin line of blaspheming the Holy Ghost. And it makes me very uncomfortable.

Has anybody heard Greg Godwin's reaction to this?

That service is MS Campmeeting in Jackson, MS. I don't know if those people gave their consent to be in the movie. That looks like Jason Dillon praying for Borat.

I hate to be anonymous but I fear some may judge those I associate with who do not make or endorse the same decisions I make on my own so...anonymity. I went to see Borat because I don't like making judgements without being informed. Since I wasn't sure I wanted to support it I bought a ticket to One Night and then went to see Borat. So here's what I think regarding the infamous camp scene: it was portrayed completely accurately. He did not edit, enhance, or unfairly depict what actually happened (other than his own behavior). Speaking in tongues was meaningless to this man when he walked in the building and I daresay it was meaningless to him when he walked out. When he is at the altar and being prayed for you can clearly hear someone say: "Loosen your tongue." This is when his tongue starts lolling around out of his mouth. It doesn't take a genius to see that he is not genuinely receiving anything of God. If we have problems with what this movie portrays (regarding this scene only) perhaps the onus is on us and the culture/environment that is engendered/allowed in our church services. Shortly after Borat enters the church he is shown holding hands with a man in a pew who has his eyes closed and is loudly praying in tongues. Borat is looking around with a quizzical expression, hmmmmmm. I think Greg Godwin is a phenomenal man of God. I think his heart is in the right place and his motives are pure and this also comes across in the movie. The travesty of the situation is not perpetuated at the hands of any one person--it's in the way we have ritualized an experience such that it can be rendered meaningless with no effort whatsoever.

I think, technically, one must first experience the baptism of the HOly Spirit before one can blaspheme it. I think the Bible makes it clear that God frowns on the sins of the saved more than the unsaved.

How can such a "POWERFUL MAN" of God be so duped. Clearly this Borat man played him. Maybe if he didn't place so much emphasis on numbers receiving the Holy Ghost and instead concentrated on showing people who Jesus is he would not have been deceived

I completely understand Borat's purpose of exposing racial rudeness and the fau pauxs of American culture, but DECEIVING A MAN OF THE SPIRT AND BLASPHEMING IS NEVER ACCEPTABLE. He's lucky he did not fall dead at the preacher's feet. The only difference between he and Saphira and her husband is that Saphira knew what she was doing as far as lying to a holy man. I have known Greg Godwin personally, and seen him perform massive, indescrbable revivals. He lived at my church for at least SIX MONTHS. He is not one to be take lightly.

These attacks will keep coming. I'm not ashamed. I'm a proud Missouri Pentecostal. I'd rather be a fool for God than a fool for this.. world. To all of the Pentecostals out there who might be offended, or even hurt by this. Just remember who you serve. Continue to Praise, and Worship God. My YouthPastor once said, worrying is a sin. It means you dont fully trust your God. I pray God will have his Will in this situation. Keep your Pentecostal head up. Lately my Youth Group has had a huge break through. Something new is happening here, seek it. As pentecostals, we cant sit around worrying while people are dying lost everyday. We're UPC, United. I'm so happy to know the truth.

thanks, Josh

Those guys from that church are crazy, they are not speaking in tongues !
they just say laralalalaralalala LOL
Borat's movie is great

ps: you religius ppl, research about speaking in tongues before you even think about it, don't believe everything you heard.

The eleven other disciples that did miracles with Judas didn't know he was an imposture either.

Holy ghost or no holy ghost unfortunately there have a lot of "brothers" come forward claiming that a lot of these shows have been staged by the pastors themselves.

From Yiye Avila, Jimmy Swaggart, Morris Cerrulo and many more.

Sad to say but I was raised in a Pentecostal home with the biggest fear of going to hell until I was 15 then I realized I was really attending a 3 ring circus.

I was baptized by the "Holy Spirit" by speaking and tounges (something I was forced to do)then I was possessed by a "spirit of laughter"
Which was a bunch of bullshit all of a sudden Christians cant have a sense of humor. Well if it is or is not too bad because the same Christian ruined my Christian experience.

My question would be if it was a muslim would you have cared? probably not.

one day BORAT will wish he had recieved the true holygost.....when he is turned into hell to burn forever and forever so sad................GLENN SPARKS
