Book Clubbin'

Posted by: David Bunch

I've been wondering how many of 90&9/Collideoscope readers are involved in a book club. You know the kind where several friends get together and choose a book to read and discuss?

If you are involved in one, how does it work? How do you come to a consensus on which book will be read? How often do you meet? Is it a big group or small group? Do you limit your discussions to one particular genre or do you explore various topics?

Finally, could such a book discussion be done online?

You see where I'm going with this. Would it be possible to hold a weekly, online, Collideoscope book discussion group?

I'd like to hear your thoughts on this!

I am not a member of a book club discussion group - but I would like to be. I would love one to participate in an online one.

I'm a member of a book group. I actually started it about a year and a half ago. It consists of several ladies in our church, all of whom love to read. Our attendance ranges from between 5 and 10 people each time. At each meeting we decide what we want to read next and when and where we'll meet next (we take turns hosting it in our homes). Sometimes we go a month between meetings, sometimes as long as 6-8 weeks, depending on the length of the book, everyone's schedule, etc. It's been very, very fun, and everyone in the group really looks forward to it.

Actually, I'm trying to start a book club with interested youth at my church, so I would benefit from ideas anyone has on how to get it started too. And I would totally get into an online Collideoscope hosted group! It's definitely possible.
