Pentecostalisms Homework
I'll be discussing "Pentecostalisms" on Friday and need your input to make it work.
(Special thanks to Lee Ann for pinch hitting for me last week. I was in a post-Youth Congress haze and largely incoherent.)

Essential portions of Pentecost, hmmm . . . the phenomenon of speaking in tongues is definitely high up there as is the wholehearted belief in the changing power of the experiential. Of course there is a high expectation of participation, at times demonstrative participation (church attendance, involvement in church-related activities, and active participation in "worship"--hand clapping, singing, dancing, etc. and responding vocally to preaching).
Another "Pentecostalism" is pride in distinction. I don't mean pride in the negative sense necessarily, I'm more referring to the strong sense or concept of being seen as "different" (within the Christian world as well as the world at large) a positive. But on the other hand, within the Pentecostal circle, the concept of belonging is a big deal.
Maybe that whole . . . almost paradox--encouragement to wholeheartedly differ from "the world" coexisting with encouragement to wholeheartedly conform within "the church" could be the seed of a short story.
Considering Pastor Tracy has been speaking on this the past two sunday AM's and also the theme of Youth Congress, I think the whole idea of Christian service might be an idea. It is becoming more and more the norm to take care of oneself as opposed to loving God and one another. It's a key part of our belief, one that's really catching on.
